Engine Noise

I have had my Titan a couple of months now with only one issue, has anyone else experienced any engine noise? The dealer says it's the fuel injectors and is normal. Mostly just hear it at idol, but the ticking or tapping what ever it is drives me crazy. Any thoughts from the group. Thanks Mitch from Kentucky.

Mitch,

Do a search on this site...and you may find what you are looking for. There is a lot of information regarding engine noise and possible culprits or explanations for what you are hearing.

Does your noise sound like a baseball card in the spokes of bicycle? And is the noise coming from the top of the engine under the intake manifolds back toward the firewall?
If so your Titan most likely has the same problem as mine, its an over zealous fuel vapor purge valve.
My dealer is aware of the problem and they tell me the Nissan engineers are working on a new purge valve. No worries, it will not harm the engine.

Sounds like lifter rattle, but I know thats not it! hence the over head valves. It ticks in time with the cylinder timing you can count them down 1 though 8 if that makes any sense. Sometimes it almost sounds like a Diesel rattling.

But thanks for the direction I'll check into it.

I've got the same annoying ticking for the passenger side of the engine somewhere just above the foot wells...

I would just turn up the radio, but it keeps fading in and out!

In addition my occasional purge valve ticking I too have the constant “diesel rattle” sound on both sides of the engine. I’m not sure if it’s internal or maybe the fuel metering system. The truck is due back shortly for its first oil change and at that time I’ll mention the rattle noise to the service tech. Say tuned.
At any rate, the engine is smooth as silk and has about as much take off and pulling power as a Boeing 737.

Not just Titan's.......Armada too...........

I've got the same faint ticking from underneath dash passenger side. Seems worse in when the engine's cold. Apparently not just Titan's. I figure the dealer will just look at me like im crazy when i ask them to make it dissappear. I wonder if they teach that look at service tech training school.

Be careful. From what some people are saying about thieir dealers, you might get one that takes you literally and takes your truck away.

"You did tell me to make it disappear, didn't you sir. Oh you meant the engine noise? I thought you meant the truck."

I picked mine up from a few days in the shop, they say that it is normal and will not affect operation, I told them it sounds like my dad's 1987 GMC Sierra, and it will get fixed somehow, I have been talking to Nissan about it almost non-stop.

Titan4UGA ? How many miles are on your truck now, and what brand of oil and weight of oil are you using? just wondering.

4600 as of this morning, and it started with the Nissan oil that was in their from the factory and now I have 5w30 RP in it, I have really narrowed down to the injectors and not vavle train noise through the use of a stethoscope (sp?) But I want to see what they dealer says besides "That's normal".

My injectors made alittle noise to for the first 2k miles or so but have really been not making much noise any more. I do get the pruge noise every now and then though. I was told by the dealer that they had fixs for some of theses noises. And were just awaiting for the TSPS from Nissan .
Deep.
