I was on a stop light with a slight up- hill. The transmission was obviously on Drive, with my foot on the brake. As I let go of the brake to go, I noticed the truck roll back a little, like it does with stick-shift vehicles. I tried again, to test it, and it would roll back everytime. The hill was not that steep.
Re: Truck rolling back on hill with tranny on Drive
This is normal! Same answer I got from my dealer.Bought my 2006 titan in FLA,(flatlands) vacationed in Georgia and really disapointed and scared by titans(2 wheel drive)performance on hills. This seems to me to be a real safety issue. In drive shouldnt tranny be locked into drive? Every other car I owened did not roll back. Unless this is an engineering feature that protects tranny, I think its not safe. Wife drives an altima. Plan to check this one out too. Anyone got the answer to this one that will make a titan owner feel better? All other aspects of titan SE are great!!

How would you handle a stick shift truck, wipe out everyone behind you? Maybe some people need to upgrade their driving skills.

Locked into "Drive"?....It already is!
The torque converter is real "loose" which means it slips a lot at low rpm and will allow the truck to slowly roll back a hill in "D" if you don't keep on the brake. It's not un-safe, you just need to keep your foot on the brake while at a stop...just like you should.

What we don't have is an "Anti-Rollback Feature", which is an extra cost item to put in, IIRC.. Not all vehcles have it, no big deal.
In other words, how much of an incline should they gaurentte (sp) a vehicle will not roll backwards with your foot off the brake? Just use brake, simple, obvious.

Re: Truck rolling back on hill with tranny on Drive
Any automatic trasmission equipped vehicle will roll back on enough of a incline. Some depending on lots of variable will roll on less of an incline than others.
After the last transmission change my truck not only runs and shifts smoother but does not roll back on hills. And the clunk and thump is gone. Interesting little change.
