Transmission cooler

I am towing a 6500# travel trailer with an LE CC 4x4 w/o the big tow pkg. I know that all the Titan's have the trans cooler, but have read that the BT pkg has an additional fan @ the radiator. Can anybody clarify that the non BT doesn't have this extra fan?

I have the Big Tow and only have one electric fan just behind the bumper and of course the fan hooked to the engine. I'm not familiar with non-big tow trucks but I would think you have the same thing.

Also I wasn't aware that ALL Titans had the external tranny cooler. They all have a cooler that is part of the radiator but the Big Tow package comes with an external one that is seperate from that one. That's a new one on me...

You have a cooler that is sandwiched between your radiator and A/C condensor??

I can only see one big radiator with a small 4x8" cooling coil mounted above the elec fan. There are two lines from the tranny up to the radiator also. I guess my real question is do I need to upgrade to an additional external cooler. Nissan doesn't make this very clear. This is from the Nissan website
__________________________________________________ _______________
Big Tow Package (SE, LE)
• Increased tow capacity
• Extendable tow mirrors
• Receiver hitch
• Lower final gear ratio (3.36:1)**; similar to a four-speed automatic 4.10:1
• Additional seven-pin wiring harness plug
• Trailer brake controller pre-wiring on IP.
• Transmission temperature gauge
• Heavy-duty battery (710 CCA)
• Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)*

They only note a trans temp gauge, not a higher capacity cooler.

The small external cooler you see is for the power steering fluid. I know it's not stated in print but if you follow your tranny cooler lines you should see one near the top left (drivers side) of your radiator disappearing between your radiator and A/C condensor. That line goes to the external ATF cooler of which I believe is only on the big tow packages...I could be wrong about this though. Maybe someone else that's done the research on a non-big tow equipped truck can chime in and set us straight with this.

Thanks JetTech. It's still a mystery to me. Last time I had the oil changed at the dealer, I asked the serv rep this same question. He said he would call me. Yeah, sure. I'm still waiting. Hopefully someone on this board has an answer.

Called consumer affairs @1-800-Nissan

I guess my real question is do I need to upgrade to an additional external cooler. Nissan doesn't make this very clear. This is from the Nissan website

Of course the girl (Amber) that answered the call didn't know, but she got back to me this morning. The tech she talked to said that the trans cooler is the same in all the trucks, and the tow pkg just adds the gauge. Thanks JetTech for responding, doesn't seem like this question was very high on anyone else's list. So it appears like I can tow my trailer now without worrying about burnin up the tranny.

I have the trans cooler on my KC XE no big tow. It is right where you described Jet Tech.

Also, I'm in the process of adding the trans temp guage:

As far as I can see there is no seprate trans cooler on big tow. I have a 9k trailer I tow and trans. get very HOT to the point it will stay in 3rd gear till it gets cooler. I will be adding an another cooler to the system. Big Tow Package YOU would THINK would come with external trans. cooler??
