Titan does have lifters!

I have read many people claiming that the Titan engine does not have valve lifters because it is OHC. This is not true!

Refer the the service manual under section EM. Also look at the camshaft section under EM.

Just thought I'd set the record straight.

Even though they are called "lifters" in the manual, they are not what is commonly thought of as a lifter (at least to me). They are actually spacers that come in different thicknesses to adjust valve clearances, as an alternative to the conventional threadably adjustable rocker arms. So instead of being able to just adjust the valve clearances with a feeler gauge, you apparently need access to a big selection of the so-called "lifters."

Lifters means hydraulic lifters

No question You are literally correct .But in the USA most folks just say "lifters" when they mean hydraulic lifters which "self adjust" the valve clearance. The things Nissan calls"lifters"are usually called shims or spacers in the USA.I guess they have to be reshimmed every 15000-30000 miles or so.Everyone who does their own valve adj prefers the threaded adj bestatchess mentions. It is almost impossible to "shade tree mechanic" the shims because you need a huge number of them.Charlie

Probably don't need that many. You just pull the valve covers and use a feeler gauge to find the lash of all your valves keeping accurate records. should you find any are out of spec, you pull the too small ones and check there size, then go buys ones you need in the additional thickness to bring it up to spec. I used to do this all the time on sport bikes but don't really want to dive into on the titan, unless it really becomes a problem. they probably have a special tool for compressing the springs so you can get at the shim. but with that it goes pretty quick. only, the dealer won't have them in stock either if current inventory of titan parts is any indicator. my jacka$$ dealer only had 2 quarts of J tranny fluid.
