This has been posted already but I'll use this opportunity to sound 1/4 smart.
Factory fill in Corvette engine, and I believe Land Rover,Mercedes Benz, and Jaguar are all synthetic.
If the manual calls for a 5-30 stick with that unless it is very cold.Use of a 40 weight will probably cause no real harm but the thicker oil will result in a minimal reduction of efficiency(probably not noticable but it will be there)
I can think of nothing negative to say about a "0" wieght oil.
In heavy duty tractors like Kenworth's an Peterbilt's if you want extended warranty on your Eaton transmissions and differentials you have to use Eaton approved synthetic gear oils.
Hope this is helpful (and I hope I was right about that 1/4 smart bit)
I am running AMSOIL 0w-30 so far so good. I switched from Mobil 0w-30 and I am going from 3000 mile oil change intervals to 7500 with the new AMSOIL oil. Gas mileage has gone up a little bit by (0.31 to 0.93 mpg average) from the Mobil to AMSOIL.

still thinkin - you're doing good...Porsche comes with Mobil 1 also.
I run nothing but Mobil 1 everywhere in my 2X4 Titan. I live in san antonio, tx. It's VERY hot down here, and I tow 9,000lbs a LOT. So I run Mobil 1 15W-50.
There was another thread a while back about whether or not this was too thick. We're waiting for some test results so the jury's still out on this one. But my common sense meter tells me the 15W-50 is needed for the heat and load. Keep in mind that the lower weight is the thinnest it pours at (15W). So I don't understand some folks' concern that it's not *thin* enough to lubricate properly. I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
Very true! that first one is hard to get off (dern robots). i tried everything and ended up having to go to the auto parts store for an oil filter socket. i forgot the size of the socket but you can match it up with a filter off the shelf at the store.
What would be a good Synthetic oil for North Dakota climate? Winter is hell, but summer is 70-80 F. I have always used 5w-30 (dino) oils here.

0w30 amsoil and 5w30 mobil for me. Always 3000 mile change intervals
someone mentioned 7500 mile intervals -- that is WAY too long. I've seen many people send out their oil for analysis, and the longest reported *safe* interval was 5000 miles. I wouldn't trust 7500.
Personally I think 3000 is just good preventative maintenance, and I know I don't have to worry about it.

That is absolutely, positively NOT TRUE Potroast. I have no idea where you're getting your information from but your comment concerning the longest reported safe interval was 5k miles couldn't be further from the truth.
I was until recently a 3,000 mile "recreational" oil changer. Then I started reading alot of stuff about oil analysis and testing of synthetic oils, and studying JetTech's oil analysis posts.

do what you wanna do, but I've seen the analysis...
