I was wondering if everyone hears a lot of ticking at idle. It is pretty loud, but it doesn't sound "bad" really. It didn't do it when I was in the break-in period. It does go away for a second after I give it gas then it comes back after it idles a second or two.

Thanks!
I have the identical situation. I believe my truck has always had it. Some days seem louder than others. I chalk it up to the injectors.

Mine turned out to be the purge valve. You can here it at idle sometime, but not while giving it gas. It was real prevalent after a 3 or 4 mile ride and the stopping and idling. Nothing was wrong with it, it was functioning normally. I think most of the time in other Nissans, the purge valve only works while driving down the road, so you just don't hear them. Mine sounded like a lifter tick, but we all know that there are no lifters in these.

Mine has has had either injector or lifter noise since new, sometimes worse than others. After some stethoscope tests, I'm convinced it's a combination of injectors and valve train, but I've quit worrying about it. By the way, Titan V8 apparently does have lifters, see attached, item 3. This is directly out of EM section of Titan service manual.

Heya...
So was it a problem or normal? Mine does the same exact thing.
I noticed the same type of noise after I changed the oil at 1800 miles to Mobile 1. I am trying quaker state synthetic to see if it quiets the lifter clicks. Are you guys running standard oil?
I've heard it on mine as well. Most noticable when cold. Funny, I had the exact same noise in my 1982 DATSUN mini truck I owned many years ago. I eliminated most of it by decreasing the clearance between the cam rocker arm and the valve end. It also was an overhead cam engine. It did not have lifters, only rocker arms that directly pushed on the valves.

I looked at the pic and I don't see any "lifters" there. If you are talking about the small U-shaped parts, those are the clamps that hold the cams on the head.
As for the click, the valve train is essentially the same as the VQ35 (350Z, Altima, Maxima, etc) and the VQ35 is notorius for valvetrain noise. Nissan injectors are also notorius for being loud.
Wouldn't sweat it ... btw ... mine does it as well.

Mike, Item number 3 in the pic (sorry for the quality), labeled as "Lifter". Clamps are differnent.

Hey all, Dale is right about the Titan having lifters. I'm not agreeing with him just because he has a super cool name, cool name Dale..... They are perhaps a little different than what your used to but they are in fact lifters of which the cam lobes ride on. The Titan engine uses lifters that are different thickness'. That's how the gap is adjusted by using a lifter that is the correct thickness.
Some of you may remember a similiar setup on the old SAAB engines. Those engines used shims under the lifter to vary the gap. Same theory just a different way of assuring the correct clearance under the cam lobe.
I'm glad I found this thread because I was a bit worried when I noticed that mine had a slight tick as well. I thought it was belt noise, but I'm no mechanic.
