I guess I'm just paranoid and broke, but I have the howling noise of my rear end going out...paid 250 for the rebuild kit and will end up going over 1000 on TT and install. Crossing my fingers and hoping the howl goes away and the tru trac install goes smooth.
Think I have been reading to far into the forums with people having troubles with blown rear ends lately and some people having failing TT with bolts coming loose and all that good stuff.
Really I just don't want to part with my truck and start over with payments.

Idk, just felt like ranting a little.
I haven't heard of blown rearends lately.
Our early models had the issue which drove many to install TrueTrac but '08 and later have a redesigned rear axle.
$1000 includes the $250 for the install? That's a bit steep.
Yeah the price is higher than what I want, but I dont have any buddy hook ups around Ft. Bragg and from what I have heard all the shops in the area are terrible...so I'm taking it to 4wheel parts in Raleigh. The price they told me was under 1000 but with time, gas, and a day with my wife it will come out to 1000.
If you install a TruTrac you might want to consider backing out the bolts on it & Loctite them all! There's have been a few instances where TT members have had the factory tightened bolts come loose & destroy the ring & pinion gears!

I read a couple posts about the loctite...I'm not doing the install but will be reminding them to use it and probably do a spot check in a month or two when I get a bigger diff cover.

Maybe a good idea to toss the mechanics a tube of thread-lock at the beginning of the project. It'll act as a constant reminder

Tru Trac install completed about a week ago at 104k by a mechanic with 20 years experience at a respected 4x4 shop. Everything was OK except noticed passenger side seal leaking 2 days later. Replaced seal and aftermarket bearing. Started leaking again 2 days later, so today replaced another seal and this time $93 bearing from Nissan shop.
Mechanic said he drove 4-5 miles on side roads and while it drives OK, that there is a problem he has never encountered before. He checked temperature somewhere of axle on drivers side and it is 55 degree, but the temp on the passenger side is 102 degrees. He believes there is a problem with the shaft on the passenger side, and is concerned that at highway speed, the added heat will cook the seal or eventually the bearing.
When I picked up the new bearing this morning, the Nissan parts guy said that they replace and sell a large amount of seals and bearings on 04-05 Titans.
Anybody have similar experience with passenger side seals after Tru Trac install. Mechanic said there is not a shim available like many trucks have whatever that means.

Strange. Did you have an e-locker before the TT? The different length axles might be the issue. My shop had to shim the TT a bit to keep the longer axle from bottoming out.

Did have e-locker before TT. Had discovered parts of spider gears on magnetic diff drain plug. Mechanic had actually ground off approx. 1/8" from end of each axle shaft to be sure they would not bottom out on TT. He spent 2 hours cleaning surface area again before using some kind of stuff in a tube before bolting axle back in. He said there was a lot of corrosion on the surfaces he needed to clean. He said that he has worked on axles with 250k that had far less corrosion/rust? than my Titan did at 104k.
Drove truck home 11 miles on side roads to keep speed down and not get the heat build up. I will check for oil leak tomorrow.
