HELP tranny fluid check

Ok so I did what I always do when checking tranny fluid. parked somewhere as level as I could see, after driving the truck for about 20minutes to warm up the fluid, left truck running in Park, pulled the dip stick the first time, about 1/8'' of an inch of fluid. wiped it off, put back in, pulled back out and nothing on the dip stick. Is that the proper way of checking fluid on this truck?

Re: HELP tranny fluid check

Well since I couldn't get an answer here I took it to the dealer and had them check and fill to the proper levels. However that has not eliminated my torque converter shudder. Are there any additives that can help with this?

Re: HELP tranny fluid check

That is how I check it , although I shift gears up and down to get fluid circulating in tranny. I would not add anything to trans but fluid.

Re: HELP tranny fluid check

I tried but the dealer talked me out of it said if I'm having tranny concerns not to change the fluid cause
The varnish might be the only thing holding my tranny together

Re: HELP tranny fluid check

Being at 80k miles, I assume you are out of warranty? If it were me, I would take it to a transmission shop for a diagnosis. The bad thing is unless they can pinpoint it, they may tell you you can drive it until it fails or pay them to drop teh tranny and look. It may at least be worth another opinion outside of the dealership.

Re: HELP tranny fluid check

Thats my plan, I'm going to have nissan do a diagnostic early next month, and then depending on what they find ill take it to a tranmission shop. and yes I am out of warranty.
