Rear differential oil change today

I had my rear differential oil changed today at a quick lube place. They showed it to me on a white card with a dab of new fluid next to it. It was horrible! The old stuff was very black/dark gray, and looked like it had very small metal particles in it.

They charged me for 5 pints. The manual says 3 3/4 pints but I didn't argue since I've seen so many posts here saying the manual is wrong. I can tell they filled it to the hole since some of it ran out on the cover. I had 'em replace it with standard GL 80W-90.

I didn't change the front diff, haven't been in 4WD that much.

4590 miles, and I've been towing at 5000+ travel trailer this summer.

Small metal particles are normal for the first time change as the gears are breaking in. Mine had the same after just 500 miles, no big deal. If you tow, the manual says to change the rear diff fluid more often. I think my rear diff took about 2.5 qts.

Sounds like everything is okay.
