Question 4X4 to lock or not to lock

I have a question concerning differentials and the off-road package. I took a test drive of a new Titan, but the salesman seemed to be clueless as to what the truck was actually capable of doing (he kept looking at his little guide book to tell me things I already knew). The one thing I'm not sure of is how the 4 wheel drive mode actually works on the package with the locking differential. I'm new to the world of 4 wheel drive, but I've done a lot of reading on how differentials work, so I don't need detail on that. What I want to know is can you drive a Titan in 4 wheel drive mode without the e-lock on? or is the only way you get 4 wheel drive on that model by engaging the e-lock? I like the thought of having a locking differntial, but do I also have the option of running in 4x4 without the rear differential locked?

You can drive the Titan in either 4HI or 4LO without the e-locker turned on.
Read the manual before shifting to 4LO

The ONLY way that you can turn on the E-locker, is to put the Transfer case into 4 LO

Otherwise, it is just an open differential with the wonderful advantage of having Active Brake Limited Slip on both the front AND rear differentials.

Since you are new to 4WD, just a note of caution. Do not drive on dry pavement, or any other surface that provides you with good traction while in 4WD...the Titan does not have a center differential (in the transfer case), and is not intended to be a full time 4WD vehicle.

I have the e-locker in mine, but I only intend on using it when I get stuck, or in an extreme situation so as not to get stuck.

Another thing, you can't get Vehicle Dynamic Control if you have the E-locker.

Lots of posts about this..do a search

Thanks, that was a simple enough answer. Too bad Nissan doesn't train there salespeople to be as knowledgeable.
