Hello all, I thought that I should mention something that happened to me last weekend while driving in the mountains. 8% and steeper grades.
First, I have a KC with a console shifter.
A couple of times while descending steep hills (narrow, winding road (both paved and dirt) generally 20 mph or less.
I was using the shifter to go to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gears as the situation required (steep or winding road, or both).
A couple of times, I shifted from 1st to 3rd, and decided right away that 2nd was a better choice, so I immediately shifted to 2nd. Both times, the rear end acted like it locked up for a split second (kind of like the tranny was in both gears at the same time).
Transmission then shifted to 2nd, but it was like it wasn't sure which gear I wanted. Maybe I confused the control module.
My suggestion is to
be very deliberate with your gear selection in this type of situation. Let the trans shift completely before making another choice, especially when shifting down.
