Castrol super clean, the purple cleaner works great with high pressure. Wear gloves as it will eat your hands up.

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

Seriously... buy stuff if you want... Kind of a waste of money, IMO... I just used the hi-pressure soap, then hi-pressure rinse at the local DIY carwash... and I'm a bit fussy about my truck and how it looks...

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

The dealer charged me $500 for the job. One hose, 5 quarts, diagnose, clean and test.

Yup, I felt abused after.

Black Beauty - 3 times? Holy cow! How many miles between hose breaks? I wonder why the Titans seem prone to this problem?

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

First was OEM... Second was believing the dumbasses at Autobone that the hi-pressure hose they sold me would work. Third time was replacement of that hose with proper hose. OEM hose back on there. No problems since.

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

Cool thanks for the good info. I'm really hoping the trans is fine and I don't see any issues with this. I was hoping to have the truck back last night so I could get it into a carwash and powerwash underneath. I guess you're right it should help clean it up some. One thing I realized is that I forgot to remove my Bully Dog GT tuner and detune it to stock. I generally do that anytime I take it to the dealer so they can't blame any problems on it (over 35,000 miles on it with the tuner and no problems at all). Hope they don't bring that up...

Just so you know, Bully Dog increases transmission line pressure by a good bit ... Hope they don't find it.

Go over and reprogram it if you get a chance.

On a different note, Nissan sells the Bully Dog programmer, so you may be OK.

I thought so and that's what I was worried about.

Update:
I just got a call back from the dealer. They WILL cover this under my extended warranty. They are replacing the hose, and then will fill the trans and test drive it. They did not mention the BDGT.

However, he said that they were sure the hose was cut by something coming into the engine compartment from underneath and slicing the hose. I said that was not possible because the of the skid plate completely covering the area beneath the hose.

Any thoughts on this? The skid plate covers very well, I would be very surprised if something got up there. I really think the hose just burst from being old/brittle.

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

I think the idea is pretty unlikely but as long as they are covering the job, I don't know if it is worth a fight.

You could always play dumb and ask them if they could put the truck on a lift and show you how something could fit up and in there.

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

Hey RobKar - I've read that a couple of times but nobody could quote a definitive source other than I read it on a forum. A dealer told me the BDGT has an option of boosting transmission pressure on some diesel trucks but that is not a setting available on the Titan. How do you know the BDGT on a Titan boosts transmission pressure?

Inquiring minds...

Hector

Personal experience. The performance map was the worst causing my truck to "buck" when shifting. I could not measure the line pressure, but it was a reason that, when I had the bully dog, I did not run the performance map

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

Interesting. I've never played with the performance setting. I had not installed my BDGT yet when my hose blew so I will have to chalk it up to crummy Nissan hoses.

Thanks.

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

For the record I was using the 87 octane performance tune. It was the lowest level of performance tune available with the BDGT. It has been that for well over 30k miles, maybe over 40K, I don't remember. I'm positive that had nothing to do with it, it was the hose getting old and brittle. I'm trying to get the old hose back when I pick it up tomorrow. I'll let you guys know any more info tomorrow after I pick it up. Good news though, this problem IS completely covered under my Nissan security+ extended warranty.

Re: Transmission hose blew on freeway - couple questions

FYI. I would make sure they take the truck somewhere and have the entire undercarriage steam cleaned. It's prob the only way it will ever be clean again. If they bark at it mention that you are concerned about the tranny fluid everywhere and how it could affect your brakes causing a safety issue. You could also mention that ATF can be quite flammable especially at higher temps.
Hopefully they will just steam clean the undercarriage and engine for you. At least it will be spotless afterwards.
