Another rear differential low fluid level w/metallic debris

Fellow Titan Owners,

Anyone else have this problem? What’s your take, should I be concerned?

After reading all of these posts regarding low rear differential fluid I finally stopped telling myself that "this is probably not a problem in my truck" So I ordered up some Royal Purple MAX GEAR - 75W140 and decided to open her up & change it anyway to be on the safe side. Sure enough I stuck my pinky down and could not even get down to the oil...so I got a flash light in there and I was shocked to see how low the oil really was. When I drained the gear oil besides it having a burnt smell I also noticed some small metallic particles or even some fine shavings in the oil. Hopefully this metallic debris was caused from a low fluid level. I went with the 75W140 synthetic cause that’s what they are running in the 05' models.

Cheers

Check out this link. It's normal and good for you for checking.A rear end swap would be no fun.
I would hope everyone no matter what year the truck was built, would check the fluid level for their own protection.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I had to top mine off (1/2 qt) upon getting it home. Drove it about 400 miles and dumped the factory fill. Was a bit dark and stinky -I expected the stinky part. Magnet had some mung, small flakes and slivers.

Refilled with M1 75/90 and did 3000 more miles of mixed driving and a couple light tows.

Dumped last week and refilled with 2 qts. M1 75/140 & 1/2 qt of 75/90 - Hey ! whatever you need they always are one short- you know !

Magnet had a little mung but no flakes or slivers.

So at least in my case - I got some run-in crud initially but it tapers off quickly with a good syn fluid and some easy going during the first few thousand miles.

You should be OK

Dang im starting to think twice about picking up a Titan. My Isuzu pick-up whith 230,000miles on the original diff dosnt make that many shavings and such, and its NEVER had burnt fluid come out of it (even when i ran the same fluid for 50,000miles). I realy hope Nissan pulls thier heads out of thie asses and puts a bigger axle back there. We arent dealing whith V-6s anymore guys!
