I have a problem with the oil level in my 2006 Titan. When I check the oil level after the truck has say overnight, the level is well passed the H by an inch or so. But when I check the level after it has been running for a few minutes, the level is at the normal range.
Should I be concerned about the level being passed H after the truck has sit overnight?
Yes I have changed it myself and put in 7 quarts... The only thing I can think to do now is to do the oil change before I start the truck in the morning and then refill.
Have the PCV valves ever been changed? I don't know if that would have anything to do with your problem but increased pressure in the crankcase could do that. However, I can't see the engine holding pressure overnight like that.
sometimes you never know....sounds like something is keeping the oil from draining out of the engine completely after it starts. PCV valve could certainly be the culprit. I just did one on Sunday and it took 6 3/4 qts to get it close to the full line
Are you pulling the dipstick, wiping it then redipping for the reading cold? I was told always pull the dipstick, clean it, then do the actual reading. Oilcan splash up the tube.
looks like I fixed the problem; I took out half a quart last night. When I checked this morning it was just at the high mark and not beyond it, like it was before.
I am hoping I didn't do any damage to the engine with running a little too much oil.
Is there any way to check to make sure I did not do any engine damage?
Current Nissan manual says 7 qts, not 6.5 like it used to. (2012 Titan Brochure to be exact) 1/2 qt is not going to hurt anything. + or - 10% is industry acceptable. Don't worry about it at all. Many of us put in the 7 qts instead of worrying about a pint extra being stored. I always have.
Oil should be checked on level ground and ideally after it has sat 10-15 minutes and done after wiping the dipstick.
