Seals leaking in rear diff

Took the truck in for the brake issue (1st time) and I ask them to look at the rear diff. They said the seals where leaking so I ask if I ordered and paid for the 05 diff cover would they put it on and they said they would as well as put in the 75 140 lube. I'm also getting a new radio because the ssv (speed sensitive volume?) is not working. I had them look at the bed liner (there is an area about the size of a quarter that appears to be coming off) and they said its OK. I will have them look at the liner again when I go in for the diff seals and radio. btw the rear diff is $105.

Ummm, why would you volunter to pay for the aluminum cover? Are they changing seals or the rear end, either way they probably would have done the cover for free.

I just assumed they would have put the oem cover from my truck back on. They are just changing out the seals no need to put on a different cover.

Is the cover starting to rust? If so, they should replace it free. And the stamped steel cover is no longer available, so that leaves only the '05 aluminum cover.

Good thinking. I've looked briefly at the cover and I really didn't notice any rusting but I'll look closer. Thanks.

I don't think I'll have any luck with the rust argument because all I see is a slight amount of surface rust up around the bolt holes and no paint peel.

Nothing a little brake fluid and salt water can't handle Just kidding.
Oh, well, it's worth shot. Make sure they don't charge you for the diff fluid. And make sure they put the new stuff in. They are not supposed to put in the old stuff.

off topic...

ButI didn't know my radio had SSV. I guess I should read that darn owner manual instead of tossing it into the desk draw

About the new lube oil I was wondering how I could tell if the thicker stuff was put in. I'm getting the feeling they are going to pay for the lube oil but I can't think of any way to assure the thicker stuff was put in. Can a person tell by the feel? I can check with little finger before and after change.

If you get the new finned diff cover it is stamped right on it to use only 75w-140.
