Oil Change

I know that Nissan likes for you to have them change your oil, but I'm curious If you change your own oil, how does that affect your service record with Nissan? If you don't let them do your scheduled maintenence, can this affect your warranty? And if this is not an issue, what is the best oil and filter for the Titan. Thanks guys.

As long as you change it at regular intervals, there's no warranty problem.

As for best oil and filter, someone posted a link to a filter study. I'm too lazy to search for it now, but it's a good read. As for oil, 100% synthetic is better than conventioinal, but not always the best choice.

They can't deny you warranty coverage for doing your own maintenance.
I keep a notebook, write down the date and mileage, then staple the oil/filter receipt to the page. It also makes a nice selling point if you decide to get rid of the truck.

I'm using Mobil 1 5/30 with Puralator Pure1 filter.

I do it just like TOK. Keep your own records and you will be fine.

I use Amsoil series 2000 and a Purolator Pure1 filter.

local autoparts store like autozone, pepboys or whatever you have will take it. I believe oil change places will take it too.

What do you mean by this? If synthetic is better why is it not the best choice? Also, How many quarts does the mighty TITAN take?

It gets dumped into large tanks and then:

What I mean is that even though synth offers better protection, it's not always necessary. And since most synth costs almost twice as much as conv, it's not always the best choice. If you don't put your motor through harsh conditions like off-road, bumper-to-bumper traffic, high ambient temps, then conv oil will suit you just fine, plus, you'll be saving $$$.

I use 7 quarts. The Manual states 6.5 I think. Just put in 6.5 quarts, and keep filling till you hit the mark on the dipstick.

If you can keep on track with regular changes and don't bang on your truck convention should work just fine. I like synth oil and have used it forever. I like Amsoil,Redline and M1. Filters can be a bit tricky see bobstheoilguy.com for more info.

Is 5w 30 the correct weight to use. What is the best conventional oil to use. They have just been using the stock oil when they change it at the dealership. Also, suggestions on filter. Thanks.

Yes 5W 30 is the recomended weight oil. I personally prefer Penzoil oil.
As far as filters go.............everyone has a favorite, but I use the Nissan OEM filter. If I can't get my hands on one of those I will use a Purolator Pure 1. Although I have never used one I have heard that the Wix filter is good.

Is switching back and forth from synthetic to conventional oil detrimental in any way?
