Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

Does anyone know why it specifically states in the owners manual NOT to use a Titan as a plow vehicle? I was just curious as to the reasoning behind it.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

Not sure what the manual says, but I do know Western makes a 7.5ft plow for it. I'd definitely air bag the front end if I went that route.

What do you mean by "air bagging" it?
I am not familiar w/plowing at all.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

I'm guessing but could it be that the frame is not made for it? The Titan is a 1/2 ton truck, most of the PU that is used for snow plows are either 3/4 or 1 ton or heavier.

Another possible reason is that it would be too front/top heavy - the Dolly Parton effect!!! You'd need to counter balance that plow with some serious weight in the bed.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

I'd never plow snow with an IFS truck. The abuse put on a trucks drivetrain is way too harsh for an IFS setup to handle. Too many joints! Not to mention our crappy rear diffs would probably explode as soon as the snow touched the plow. Air bags are rubber air filled cylinders that help support your suspension.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

My friend has plowed for 9 years with his 95 Bronco. Airbags installed in the front to limit compression whenthe plow is on. He also welded up some 1" steel plates on 2" box tubing that plugs into his hitch receiver to counteract the weight of the plow. A 1/2 ton IFS truck can reliably plow, you just need to properly equip it and not go crazy like plow 40 driveways a storm.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

Western makes a " surbanite" plow for the truck. You will have to remove the front skid plate for the mount to get in there. the plow is 7ft 4 iches and is lightweight. NOT for comercial use. you will trash teh plow and the truck.

Titan max payload is 1576 lbs. (King Cab XE 4x4) its 1680ish for crew cab 4x4 which woudl make it a 3/4 ton truck.

Im looking into a Wertern plow for it only because with the $$$ for plowing out here i could buy a new Truck after 1 season and pay cash for it..

as far a warranty being void.. the dealer will tell you changing your washer fluid yourself will void your warranty. id look for it in writing by Nissan MFG not a dealer.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

should be able to hold it. the only prob is with the titan, the nose it to low and as in my belief, the shocks and **** seem way to loose on the front of those trucks. thats the only prob with it. the back sits way up high, while the front is real low. more of a drag racing desighn that a four wheel drive work/joy truck in my opinion.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

Don't do it! If you want to plow snow buy yourself a beater 1 ton. Pushing snow beats the HELL out of a truck. Ask anybody who does it comercially. trashes front suspension, jams snow in radiator, which overheats engine, ruins autotrannies, real hard on rears with constant spinning tires back and forth(like a TITAN needs that), also need a lot of elec juice to run hyd pump. I've seen body mount ripped off frame by packing snow. It's a quick way to throw away $30k+.

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

You could plow with the titan no prob. there is a guy at my work that plows our yard with a chevy 1/2 ton reg cab long bed with a v-6 and it does it no prob and that front end is alot lower than the titans. With that being said it will put alot of wear and tear on the truck like front brakes with all that weight up there. And if you are not carefull its easy slide into something and ruin your truck. I mean you dont want to put a 9' blade on there or anything like that if I'm not mistaken an 8' fisher plow weighs something like 600lbs+. And the long term effects on an auto tranny are not good I know someone that traded there 99 150 in for a 350 psd because the tranny was ready to crap out and the 1 ton is feeling the effects already (tranny temp gets HIGH sometimes)

Re: Nissan Titan as a plow truck?

I plowed 18" last winter on one storm , the tranny & engine temp gauge didn't elevate at all
