Question 2005 titan problems ?

Hi everyone i'm new here ,man after glanceing through topics here i'm afraid i bought the wrong truck anyhow was wondering is these problems with rear diff and front diff are with the 2005 models also ? I have an 05 crew cab 4x4 off road pkg. i was at the beach driving on the sand and noticed a differnt whineing sound so i stopped and it smelled like something burnt oil or something like that . i just started driving again and it was fine , it did it twice while i was there. going to dealership tomorrow but i know what they will say (can't find or here anything) so please fill me in on what to do and what to look for down the road. Thanks, Rodney

Re: 2005 titan problems ?

Yeah I have a 2005 and my front diff went out. I wouldn't be too worried about it. They fix any problems you have. Its not like my old F150 that went through a set of brake pads every year and a half because they made the rotors too small for that size of truck. The dealer told me "well, you're driving it too hard".

Re: 2005 titan problems ?

I have a June/05 built Titan with about 9,400 miles. No major troubles. I pulled a 25' travel trailer last summer including a brief trip to the Rocky Mountains. If it's not too late, take it easy during the break-in period, and flush the diff fluids when you get a chance.

Don't worry about the drivetrain. You're entitled to free repairs for 5 years or 60,000 miles. My engine, tranny, front and rear diffs will all have a catastrophic failure with 59,975 miles on the odometer and 1 week left in the 5 year warranty. Nissan will drop in the new 2010 500HP 50MPG Endurance II motor, new 6 speed tranny, and new Mega-Torque-Trac-Dyna-Lock-Tru-Shizzle diffs. not likely

Re: 2005 titan problems ?

2005, born 5/18/06

I'm at 12,000 miles and the only drivetrain problems I have had are leaks. Leaks, leaks and more leaks...

I would just be sure you park in such a way you can keep an eye on what may or may not develop under your truck. As it is winter here, i.e. snow in my driveway, I'm glad I park in a concrete ramp garage at work. I always park in the same spot and after a while I started noticing a black spot under my truck that was growing at an alarming rate.

In fact next week Monday I drop my truck off for what I hope to be the last and final fix.

#1- rear pinion seal failure, rear diff fluid was dripping off the bottom of the pumpkin and has sprayed all over the underside of the bed

#2- tranny upper bolt, near top of the caseing, it was not torqued properly at the factory, the oil was dripping off the head of the bolt, running down the side fo the tranny, dripping onto the exhaust and smelled just swell

#3- tranny lower bolt, weeks later, same as #2, makes you wonder why the hell the dealer could not have just checked the torque on ALL the bolts while they were under the truck...

#4- tranny drain plug, damn dealer did not have a crush ring in stock, so they ordered it and I'm due to go in and get the fluid changed and the new 'gasket' added; with luck this will be the end of my trucks urination problem.

Let me just say- I see these more as an annoyance than a problem, however, if I did not notice them they could have easily become problems!

I'm sick and tired of all the problems...

Damnnit, I knew it was a mistake to get the 10year 100,000 mile warranty. LOL

I guess I will get stuck with the new solar powered version when it gets time.

I have almost 36k on my 08/04 and I drive it like I stole it 85 miles round trip for work. I wouldn't worry about it. Like a couple of others already said. At least Nissan takes care of it. Not as fast as we would like, or getting it right the first time. But they do get around to it.

I'm with ya bro...30,xxx miles on my 05, and I still have the "old" brakes! A few loose bolts on the tranny mount, and a little tweeking of the alignment are the only issues I've had. Sometimes I feel like I'm being left out....

here' knocking on wood to a continued run of reliability!

Re: 2005 titan problems ?

hey 15,000 miles on mine and still no problems.
i pull two trailers (not at the same time) upwards of 750 miles a week
trailer 1 3500# empty 28 foot enclosed we always load this one full this one full goes easily to the 10,000 # that the trailer will haul.
trailer 2 1800# tandem axle 20 foot with 24 inch sides this is the light trailer.
i changed the diff fluid at 1500 miles and have had no problems with this truck.
i am feeling left out of all the problems but after my toyota tundra(in the shop before it had 1500 miles on it) many other problems with the tundra too.
so i am glad i have had no problems.
i even raced a dodge neon with my light trailer and got him. no load in trailer tho.

I have the integra for spirited driving and the truck for cruising with class!!

Plus the last thing I need is to be stuck in the middle of the adirondaks with a broken truck! I just hope I get a chance to use my warranty....

If you're worried about the fluid, it shouldn't take much or cost too much to have it changed out. The 05 cover means that you have a larger oil capacity.

Not sure about "updated rear ends".....I thought the update was larger cover from 04, and now some of the techs on the board are talking about a vent on top or something...I'll try and find the thread.....found the thread just down the page from this one rear diff please read
