When to change front diff. fluid?

I just changed out my rear diff. to Mobil 1 75w140, but didn't think about the front. Should you change them at the same time? Or at different intervals (front does not need to be changed as much) Also can I use the mobil 1 75w90?? Thanks in advance.

Re: When to change front diff. fluid?

I changed the front at 15K and I plan to go 30K between changes. I changed the rear diff at 5K and 15K. I plan to change it every 15K.

Re: When to change front diff. fluid?

I would not think it would need to be changed that much if you don't 4x4 alot.

I have only used mine a little and have 15k. Is it time to change?

Re: When to change front diff. fluid?

Thanks guys. I checked it and it look ok. I will change it at about 15k or so depending on how much I use the 4 wheel drive.

Re: When to change front diff. fluid?

If you off road any or go through water deeper than the bottom of the diff, you need to check both front and rear diffs for water.

There is a vent tube that should keep pressure equal. If that gets clogged or does not function properly, you can have a vacuum inside the diff which will suck water into it if you get into deeper stuff.

It's always a good idea to check each diff after going into more than 8 inches of water or so. If you took water, it will turn the diff fluid milky and will come out the inspection (top) hole of the diff when you unscrew it.

Thanks for the heads up.
