I don't think it locks, it just distributes power between the 2 wheels so both are getting equal traction. Maybe on ice, or during a good burnout, both wheels will be spinning at the same speed.

It will work better than the stock e-lock. TRU-TRAC is a limited slip differential. No buttons. It works whenever one wheel starts to spin faster than the other. And reliable reports are that it is seamless and perfect. It works just when you need it.

With the factory E-Lock, you have to be in 4-LO to engage it. It's a solid rear while locked. No give at all. That puts a lot of strain on everything. Driveabilty drops with the diff locked. Good for straightline, not turns, the back wheels want to push forward only, even in the loose stuff.

Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review

For offroading a true locker is better than a limited slip, even the best of them like the Truetrac. But if you're looking for something to help out in wet weather or snow the limited slip is probably a better option.

When you combined with the Titan's ABLS, I think a Truetrac in the rear diff of a Titan will give 100% of the traction you'll have with a locker - and it's much better on the drive to and from the offroad spot.

Without the truetrac (with the diff unlocked), I could easily overpower the ABLS with the throttle. The slip light would keep blinking. With the TrueTrac, the only time I've ever gotten a slip light is when I had the back of the truck in the air on a jackstand and held one tire - for about a second until the ABLS kicked in and jerked the wheel loose.

Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review

I am curious. We have all seen a few posts regarding rear axles being replaced.

Have there been any rear axle failures after installation of a TRUETRAC ?

I haven't seen any such posts.

Neither have I. Only a few axle seals leaking.

Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review

Someone had a problem with a rear axle that had a tru trac in it...

they were worried about keeping it when the swap out happened. I think the problem was found DURING the install of the trutrack though....it's all rather foggy now.

Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review

I read your story about installing the Truetrac. Just wanted to confirm. You did not disable the ABLS and you havenot had any conflicts between the Truetrac and the ABLS?

Correct. If you have one wheel in the air or on glare ice, the ABLS will actually help the TrueTrac engage. But with VDC turned off (if so equipped) you don't see much of the slip light with a TrueTrac.

Call Ed today, because the price is going up on Monday. Any order received today will be locked in at today's rate, but orders received Monday April 3rd or later will pay more.

I just spoke with Ed at West Coast Differentials, and Tractech (aka Detroit) has sent out a price increase. Our price is going up, from $493 to $532, effective Monday April 3rd. Any order which has already been placed and any order which is received today will pay $493 (which will likely be dropped down 8% to $454). Any order which is recieved on Monday or later will pay $532 (which will likely be dropped down 8% to $490). Again, this is due to a price increase from Tractech which was just sent out today.

As of 1130am Pacific, Ed had 8 orders. Pretty good considering it's been less than 24 hours. Assuming he gets 2 more orders (which seems like a safe assumption), the lower price comes into effect. So, orders received on or before today will pay $454, and orders received on Monday or later will pay $490.

The 8% price reduction which occurs at 10 orders will happen automatically - so, if you were paying $493 you'll pay $454, and if you were paying $532 you'll pay $490.

The price increase from $493 to $532 is effective Monday. Order today (Friday March 31st) to get it for the lower price.

Does that make sense to everybody?

Again, here's contact info:

Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review

there have been hearsay on this forum about having to modify the axles for e-locker equipped trucks (off road package) to fit the true trac? Unless I missed it, I see no mention in this thread however... What if anything needs to be modified?

For those with a locking rear end, you have un-equal length shafts. You'll need to either shim the passenger side axle out some with shims behind the axle bearing outer race (we used 0.090) or extend the splines on the passenger side axle by about 1/8" for clearance. Basically, the longer passenger side axle goes in just a bit too far.

We used old-style D44 ARB shims, which fit perfectly. I brought a couple home so that I could measure ID and OD, but I haven't done that yet. I also stopped by my local awesome dealer and picked up another broken axle. I plan on using the shorter driver side axle shaft from the new axle assembly on the passenger side of my current axle. Easier than using a Dremel to extend the splines.

Also, those with a locking rear end have a diff lock position sensor - just a plunger type sensor (you can see pics on my website). The plunger slightly rubs the TrueTrac carrier, so it must be removed. It can be replaced with an M14x1.5 bolt... about 1/2" long is all you need. Alternately, you could just snip the plunger off the sensor housing with a pair of dikes.

For those with a non-locking rear end, you have equal length axle shafts. There are no special needs for installation.

There were no other seals or new parts, except for the M14x1.5 bolt to plug the position switch hole.

Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review

Thank you Austin! I guess I should have known enough just to search for your screen name on this particular subject

I'm sick of my right rear tire spinning! I know it's a long wheel base and a mostly empty bed, but come on!

Sounds like some work involved... I will have to ask my somewhat mod-friendly dealer if they'd be willing to take this on.
