Thank you Austin! I guess I should have known enough just to search for your screen name on this particular subject
I'm sick of my right rear tire spinning! I know it's a long wheel base and a mostly empty bed, but come on!
Sounds like some work involved... I will have to ask my somewhat mod-friendly dealer if they'd be willing to take this on.
I would let a real shop that specializes in differentials do your install....the dealers ( If you were talking Nissan dealer ) are axle swappers at best...I dont think they ever actually replaced anybodys differential here on the boards...they order the entire axle for the repair and do a quick swap.
There is an art to getting the ring/pinion relationship perfect...no wonder Nissan fronts the money for the entire axle...they know they would get repeat calls on the truck if they relied on the dealership mechanic getting it right the first time .
One thing is for sure...that one wheel peel is GREAT to say goodbye too

Anybody know if HD axles are available for these rearends? Does the TrueTrac work ok in snow or is the single spinner better? I drive my truck in pretty rough conditions and tow a 5,000 boat up and down hills all summer.

I saw a couple posts midway through this thread asking about adding a truetrac diff to the front as well...has anyone done this? any consequences?(obviously could only be used when in 4wd)
If i'm going to spend the money to have the rear done I figure I might as well do the front as well if it's worth it

For those of us that bought a used Titan, what is the best way to see if someone installed TrueTrac? (Without pulling the pumpkin apart) I did a burn out the other night and noticed I had left two long black patches, not the one patch my 05 used to leave. I'm going to do some more "testing" when I hit some dirt this week, but was looking for a more scientific way of find out.
Raise both rear tires off the ground and spin one tire and see if the other tires spins in the same direction. If it does you have a locking diff. If the tire spins in the other direction, it's open...

I don't want to front the cash if it isn't required, so what is the chance that my entire rear will not be destroyed when my diff finally gives it up? (thus allowing me to install the TruTrac by showing the wife that it is required)
