How would this thing work in sand dunes? From what I have sceen Real Lockers work the best in sand I don't thnk I would want the power transfer constanly going to be shifting back and fourth between the rear tires and I would best like to have an equal amount of pull from both sides in any sticky situation.

If you want constant power to both wheels in the sand, a full Detroit or ARB is the way to go. If you are using your truck strictly as a trail vehicle, you'd save some cash by running a full spool. Sand dunes are not something you'll find in North Georgia, but from what I've read in magazines, I believe wide tires are good for sand - you need a lot of floatation, and they'll give you that. Interco/Super Swampers might be your best bet (Boggers), if you can live with a short tread life.
Will Detroit offer one for the front diff as well?
I am sure to get the one for the rear but I would also want one for the front as well...making it a "true" 4X4.
Thanks again for the info and review...

Austin, thank you for being the laboratory test bed for this. Not only have you helped us find a really good solution to traction problems, but I believe you are dead on right about this solving the diff weakness problem.
Like you, I have seen and played with the guts of a lot of diffs. Our axles are incredibly beefy for a 1/2 ton truck, and the size of the teeth on the ring and pinion are more than stout enough. By keeping the actual diff ratios down to 2.92 or 3.36 and gearing low in the tranny, you get a much bigger pinion gear than if this was a 4.10 rear end.
Many of us here have felt that the diff failures were due to spider gear problems. The TrueTrac replaces them. TrueTracs can and do take a lot of horsepower on the strip and are tried and true.
Now, Nissan, if you are listening (or reading), why don't you learn from this and just put a TrueTrac in the rear of each of your '07's when they come out and have some happy customers and save a ton of money on warranty work?
Problem solved. Thanks, Austin.

Do you have the "burnout mod"? If so, that would be a great test.
All you need to do is pull off the connector above the brake pedal - and yes, I've done that before... to spin circles in a dirt field with the OEM diff locked.
I will hopefully be able to convince my beautiful cameraperson to make some video this weekend. Oh, and I'll also ask her to get some video of a 2 wheel burnout on dry pavement.

did u take any pics of the tru-trac itself? Or of the install?
OK, OK, Ok, will this mod cause a problem with those equipped with VDC???
