what makes the truetrac better then the detroit locker? from reading the desrcription, the detroit locker (non-tru-trac) is the one to get. It locks when on straight and un-locks on turns. What more could you want?

How about no loud bangs, jerks, clanks, chirping tires, and worn tread?
Oh. So it doesnt unlock smoothly? Yeah, i should have figured as much.
Yes, they aren't made for street use. They tend to get a little squirrelly around turns if you don't moderate the throttle just right. That and the other issues I mentioned.
As far as the warranty issue, I can't imagine what would lead them to the diff. If it nothing changes on the outside, how would anyone guess???
I just can't imagine any scenerios here. OK, you mean like maybe if the trans starts to having problems, or if a universal goes, something along those lines???

I didn't have most of those issues on my Detroit equipped 4Runner. Of all those mentioned above the worst was jerking when locking. And once you figure it out you can eliminate most of that, also. You really couldn't hear it, and it never chirped the tires (unless wanted) or caused the tires to wear unevenly. With that said, however, the Trutrac is a much better option for a daily driven street truck.
Ed has voicemail leave him a message like me. Thanks Austin and Ed!

LOL. Is that fancy talk for "find the phone and the credit card with the lowest balance?"
It would be nice if it could show up on the credit card statement under "Ace Residential Furnace & Air Conditioning" or something like that to keep the wife from knowing it was another truck mod.

mach1, if you're looking for superior off-road performance, the full Detroit is hands down the best. The Trutrac can't hold a candle in the offroad arena when run against a Detroit. However, I'm guessing you aren't looking to do any serious offroading in your truck, and that's makes the Trutrac a better choice for you. I'm into rockcrawling and own a CJ-7 with Detroits in the front and rear. They are the best! ARB's are nice, but if you catch your airline on something or your compressor craps out, your done. I did have a Trutrac in the front of my CJ and it just wasn't getting the job done on the trails, so I went with the full Detroit.
Just called Ed and ordered a TrueTrac....opted for the new carrier bearings as well for just a few bucks more...also had to pay tax since they are Calif based...I am also taking the drive north ( Bout 2 hours tops ) to their own shop to have them install the unit ( Ed said 150 sounds about right for the install but that I had to call their actual shop for a real price quote ) ...I asked him to forget the shipping and just to call me when they came in and I would drive on up for the install...he said no can do for the price quote given...it has to ship to me and I have to carry it back to the same place it shipped from for the install ? Weird , but I didnt care...least its gonna get installed soon is all I care about. Thanks Austin for your efforts in this...it was greatly appreciated !!!!
