transmisson problem?

was about to drive out of school the other day and i put it in gear and it jerked really bad. it did it in all of the gears. gunna take it in when i have time. also when i pushed the gas it did go forward but i had to take it to around 2500rmp..."at check" light was on, is this the rear diff failing or some wrong with the transmission? it is fine now but once in a while "before this happened" i would put it in gear and it wouldnt engauge? can someone please tell me whats going on i only have 70000 miles. might get rid of it if it already has problems thanks!

is the 70,000 miles a typo ?

I had a problem similar right after I drove off the lot. My truck would engage but when giving gas it didn't seem to want to go. The dealer had for a week then figured out it was. I had a post on here about it but it's gone. I think it was the throttle body sensor. If this is what you have I can find out exactly what they did and let you know.

Re: transmisson problem?

If your "at check" light is on, and from your descrition its the tranny, not the rear. The titnas tranny is computer controlled and rather complicated. It has its own 450 pages in the service manual. Take it to the dealer to check it out.

you can crawl underneath and do a visual, make sure nothings unplugged, leaking, and also check your fluid level with the dipstick, while its warned up and idleing.

Re: transmisson problem?

I have similar symptoms to your titan, P's Titan, it's intermittent. When it does occur, it feels like an old Buick Dynaflow tranny, high rpms to get it rolling and then it seems to go back to normal.Naturally I intend to take it in to the dealer at some point, but I'm on the other side of the USA right now and concerned that something like this would pop up at any time ,much less so soon.

Yup, that sounds like what mine was doing. It just ended up being a bad sensor. I will contact my buddy at the dealer and see what they replaced and let you know.

Re: transmisson problem?

Mine did that once and I think the reason was that I put it into gear immediately after starting the engine.(I was in a big hurry) I think it was because the computer didn't finish the self test cycle it does after startup and a solenoid got stuck partway open or closed and the trans valve body was partially diverting fluid press. somewhere it shouldn't have been going. By the way reverse worked fine. It slipped and acted like it didn't want to go when I put it in drive after backing out. I shut it off and restarted it and all was fine. Now I wait till all the idiot lights go back out before touching the gear shift lever and have never had that problem since.
