Valvoline MaxLife ATF has published a brochure stating that it is o.k. to sub for Nissan Matic J. I have posted a link to that a few times.
There is also a Castrol J fluid that I found on the Castrol New Zealand website, but it doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. (Maybe they make it for Nissan?)
I recall on this board sometime last year that one of the "site sponsers", A Nissan parts dealer, was selling that fluid for $9.95 a qrt.....but that info comes from a tainted memory

I may be able to get a group deal going on the Nissan J fluid. I have a Parts manager that I know from maxima.org site. He has always provided great prices or has been honest enough to tell me that an OEM part isn't worth purchasing.
I thought it was just me dealer charged me $100+ for a case. I thought it was just because i was using their class action check(came in mail seems they were adding hidden charges) to pay for it, and parts guy hit the stuff the customer button on computer. I don't feel so bad now.
well, i dont need any now, my truck has 2K miles on it, and i wont change the fluid to at least 30K, and i dont drive much, so that a long time away. Maybe there will be cheaper alternatives by then.
It's been awhile since reading and posting on here. Can we use Amsoil ATF yet or do we have to stick with Nissans ATF?
I noticed no one said Amsoil could be used. I checked the Amsoil site and it is listed as ok. I believe that Amsoil has a great warranty in the event you blow the tranny.
I love Amsoil because of it's broad temp range. Winter months in Minnesota is hard on the tranny.
I've only got 2,000 miles on my titan and intend on changing the tranny fluid aroung the 5,000 miles.
I you do it yourself, you will only change about 5 out of 11 quarts (via draining the pan) unless you are filling & draining from the ATF cooler at the same time (flushing as described in the service manual). If you take it to a dealer with the power flush machine, they can flush & change all 11 quarts.

Can you drain the torque converter? Fords have a rubber plug in the bottom of the bell housing where you can access the TC and drain it. This removes all except what's in the lines and tranny cooler. Would be nice.
