transmission oil check?

When changing my motor oil today i noticed that i have a leak at the passenger side transmission oil cooler line going into the rad. I'll be taking it into the garage tomorrow. I've read several threads about it and the tsb on it as well, but my question is when checking the fluid do we do it at idle or with the engine off?

I realize this sounds like an elementary question, but the owners manual doesn't give guidance that i can see. I would have always thought that you would check it with the motor running until i bought a Honda Odyssey which has you check it with the engine off.

When i check it when it is running, it indicates its low (hence the leak maybe), but when i check it with the engine off, its right at the top of the range and looks fine.

Re: transmission oil check?

Leave it running and put it through all gears, then back in park and check it.
