Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

Got some Nissan rear end 75-140 syn. from dealer today. Is the genuine oil as good as say Mobil1 or Amosoil? Paid only $11 per quart, knew parts manager.

Re: Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

Nissan just re-brands someone else's 75w140, they don't own any refineries. I don't know whose though. Either of the other brands you mention are a good choice. I'm using the Amsoil.

Re: Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

I figured there probably wasn't a big difference between the brands. The nissan bottle said it is a gl-5 synthetic 75w-140. I have gallons of this stuff, put it in my customers with volvo penta marine sterndrives. Never buying fluid again! Oh by the way the fluid was horrible, black as night and burnt. Not one metal sliver on the drain magnet thou. So any one worrying about getting high miles without a diff. failure, 114,000 and never any problem(were's a friggin piece of wood to knock on when you need one!)HAPPY BOATING EVERYONE!

Re: Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

I dont think there will be much difference at all. I like amsoil or M1 myself because I know what it is like others have said dont know who makes the nissan oil.

Re: Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

I'm about to hit 3K miles on my 05 and just went to wal-mart and picked up their Super-tech 75w140 for the initial flush. My plan is to change it to Amsoil or M1 at 10K miles. Should I return it and just do the good stuff? It was a little over $10/qt after tax.

Re: Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

I am trying the BG 75/140 synthetic ultra guard. I have been using Royal Purple. The oil runs about $15.00 a quart from Napa.

Like I said...it could be coincidence...but I'll sure as hell never use it on another vehicle.

Now, I have read good things about the supertech filters...

Seems like they are pretty good quality...but not as good as the Purolator (sp?)

yeah, maybe your rear was on its way out anyway. I'm not going to take the chance though. I'm going to check the price of mobile1 today at Schucks and if it's too spendy I'll get the Amsoil through my bro for $10/qt for 75w-140.

Re: Diff. Fluid Oil?Which is better?

If we don't use Royal Purple do we need to use the limited slip additive? Sorry I don't know if we have limited slip or not

I've read on other truck forums to use and additive unless you use RP. Haven't seen anything about that on any titan forums though.

No additive is Necessary with the stock diff, we have an open diff. We do have ABLS, which is controlled by the brakes, and is one small step better than useless.
