Well Manual says 5.5 Quarts if no filter change
6.5 quarts with filter change.
Got back from the dealer and he told me it took 7.5 quarts to fill my truck. He said I only brought them 6.5 quarts (Amsoil 5-30) so he had to add an extra quart of Mobile1 5-30.
I was told change 6.5 quarts but there still seems to be some debate. He said the oil level should sit at the maximum line, where as before I believe onhere I was told it should sit someplace between full and maximum.
I have always only put in 6.5 quarts but now it sound like I have not been filling the motor with oil.

Seven puts mine right at the max dot and not over it, that is with a new filter.

My dealer said too put 7 qt's in and not the 6.5 the manual call's for. 7qt's put's me at the full line.
Well from now on I'm goign to fill it to the max line. I'm not going to run it 1/2 way between full and max, although I don't know which is right. As long as theres no problems might as well make it 7 quarts...
Wish I would have remembered to take a smaple for an oil analysis.

The manual specifically states to fill between the two lines. When I do that, it takes 6.5 qts. Filling to the top line takes 7 qts. I doubt if there would be a problem filling to the top line, although over filling would be bad.
I usually stop putting in oil when the level is just under the top line. There is a picture in the manual showing where Nissan wants the oil on the dip stick to be.
This is the first vehicle I have owned where the manual says not to fill to the top line.I don't know why, but I do pretty much what the manual says, even though it can be inconvenient to have oil left over in qt. bottles. I buy my oil in 5 gal. buckets or drums, so it is not a problem for me.

"safe" level is between the two lines... it just makes the most sense to fill it to the max line at oil change... the level could go down but shouldnt go up... so filling it to the max line gives you a better chance of catching it before it gets too low if you are leaking or burning oil... just my $.02
edit: i use 7 qts which brings me to the max mark with new filter....
