Buying a 4 cyl, sticking a ball in the muffler, earplugs for my superman hearing, turning ignition off, cranking up the radio. These are all great suggestions. I am glad I asked for help. I should forward them all to consumer reports. They seem to hammer the Titan pretty good already because of this.

I'm sure everybody is scared, and doesn't care what you do with this thread. Remember, we have a freedom of speech (it's in the Bill of Rights). You asked a question, a stupid one if I can add. Sorry you don't like the V8 monster sound from the 5.7L Titan; should have bought a Scion or something like that. I'm sure you could have put a trailer hitch on one of those.

roll down the windows. The wind noise will block out that beautiful exhaust note.

Put on some 33" ProComp xtreame all terrain T/As like I did and that's all you'll hear.

Re: How do I reduce muffler noise?

Now that you have seen zoomers tip posted twice maybe you will give it a try and no you are not the only one who thinks the stock exhaust has drone do a search and you will see their are others who said their stock exhaust had to much drone for their taste and yes some of the magazines did complain about the stock exhaust having too much drone. Its a matter of taste and my taste also said it was annoying after a long trip but with the tip its perfect in my opinion.

Re: How do I reduce muffler noise?

Second the advice of Skeet, many members have had good luck with Zoomers but I personally haven't gone that route so not a personal experience recommendation.

Suggest you ignore other members from the state where noise means power and if they like it you should also like it also. Seems as though the "with us or against us" mindset even includes a preference of sound decibels!

Re: How do I reduce muffler noise?

have the stock system checked for integrity and if it is ok and you still think it is loud put a second muffler inline. that should make it super quiet. remember though it is a 300+ hp v8.

Re: How do I reduce muffler noise?

Yeah that's one of the intentions of the Titan's design: a growly muffler. Nissan did a lot of research into the USA truck market before making the big guy and, obviously, learned that most US truck owners prefer a mean sounding truck. That's why the stock Titan sounds meaner than the stock <insert other truck here>

I bought this Titan to tow a trailer. I am happy how it handles that task but I could do w/o the noise. There are many ways to add noise but noise does not do a thing to make a truck faster or more powerful unless you think that special effects make things real. In my case, it is plain annoying.

Mike

No where in my post to you did I suggest you get earplugs for your sensitive hearing. But if I may, I suggest you get a sense of humor! Your gonna get slammed every now and then, your just a rookie to the site and alot of people like to flame the rookies, especially if they complain about the sound of a Titan, a stock one at that I might add.
Now quit whinning and just get a zoomers tip!

Re: How do I reduce muffler noise?

Just wondering what you heard when you test drove the truck? Was it "loud" then? Or has this come as a surprise?

In any event, there is no "free" or even cheap way to make the stock exhaust even more quiet that I know of. But my definition of cheap may be different than yours.

The Ford, Chevy/GMC and Toyota's exhaust tone (stock) are quieter than the Titan's as is the Honda Ridgeline. Maybe a trade in if it's that much of a problem to you?

I suppose you could put in a resonator after the muffler, they are pretty cheap and the installation cost should be marginal. I have no idea how these type of fixes will impact performance.

Re: How do I reduce muffler noise?

I think I know what the problem is. Drone starts at 60 if you have BT. Remember the stock muffler has fiberglass packing in it. Maybe after that burns out some and the exhaust tunes in there could be some drone. The zoomers tip would be a good choice.

I have an Magnaflow system with the Zoomers tip. Yes I still have drone. But I have noticed that you only really hear the drone in the drivers seat. If I sit in the passenger seat or in the back seat no drone. No one ever says anything about the drone because i am driving. You guys with drone try this- lean over the console towards the passenger seat, do you have less drone?

Bottom line here, get the Zoomers tip or another truck.
