We just purchased a new '06 Titan SE Crew Cab 4x4. The truck runs great below 55mph w/ little or no noise. Once at 60-65mph, the muffler gets noisy. Is there an inexpensive way to quite this down?

I honestly don't understand how going above 60 mph on a stock Titan would be more "noisy" unless you floor it, but simply cruising at that speed was not loud at all for me before I had a custom exhaust installed. Is the muffler making the noise or is it at the tailpipe? The muffler would be under warranty. The tailpipe could be cut and a baffle tip could be installed to make it less noisy.
However, the most inexpensive way would be to simply drive 55mph. You have to remember, you have a BIG motor under that hood and it needs purr every now and then.

I don't mind the noise on short trips and I actually like the sound when it accelerates. It does get to you when you drive 4-6 hrs and there is no one around to listen to it but you.
I have been scanning the forums and it looks like others have reported the same noise highway noise at over 55mph.

Not with the stock exhaust you haven't. Now you will get dronning with an aftermarket exhaust such as the well know Banks system. The Zoomers will not drone. But the stock exhaust, which I assume you have because you said you just bought the Titan, will not drone at any speed. You might have a loose pipe or something just wrong with the muffler itself. In any case, the stock exhaust is not loud, you must have very sensitive hearing like superman.

Sorry man, I just don't relate to you... I understand that a 5 hour drive would be hell, but turn up the damn radio or something. You bought your Titan as a V8, sorry man, V8's aren't going to sound like Honda Civic's on a 5 hour drive. Go trade your Titan in for somethine a 'little less louder'.

Turn the ignition to "Off."

Buying a 4 cyl, sticking a ball in the muffler, earplugs for my superman hearing, turning ignition off, cranking up the radio. These are all great suggestions. I am glad I asked for help. I should forward them all to consumer reports. They seem to hammer the Titan pretty good already because of this.
I bought this Titan to tow a trailer. I am happy how it handles that task but I could do w/o the noise. There are many ways to add noise but noise does not do a thing to make a truck faster or more powerful unless you think that special effects make things real. In my case, it is plain annoying.
You can try the Zoomers tip, and it's not all that cheap. Somewere on this site someone posted about a ground kit for the muffler he bought at a Pep Boys or something like that. It "supposedly" cut the drone. You can look into that.
I had to run some errands and decided to check the exhaust noise at around 52mph and again at 62mph. If there is a difference in noise it is such a small variance that it should not even be noticeable to the normal person.
