I agree, it probably is axel wrap. I have had the PRG traction bars so long, that I forgot about axel wrap. That's how good they are.

Well i dont have a titan but i had the same problem with my f150, I think your truck shook because of the fact you were on dirt, you have large tires that grip nicely and when you downshifted, your tires had to overcome the restraint of the transmission then the transmission had to overcome the compression of your torqey v8 thus making the rears lock up for a moment, causing the shaking, until the engine/ tranny caught up to you. Been a problem for a while now, Tom aka HoneyKeeper spewed it all over this site.
When I was lemoning my Titan the regional rep looked at the downshift issue and had no clue what was causing it, they even tried replacing the tranny even though I didn't want them to and told them it wouldn't work since other people have had that. Basically, just avoiding downshifting there..hehe.

Top 10 Ways You Know You're a Hopeless Procrastinator:
something on this issue i thought about the other day...
some transmissions use a different approach to acheiving certain gears when selected manually than if selected automatically, sometimes 1st or 2nd will engage a boost valve to increase pressure to the clutches to hold the gear better, i guess it is assumed that if you manually select a low gear you might be in a bind. i had an f-150 that if you put it in drive, then while still sitting still selected manual 1, you could feel a very slight jerk. it was also more noticeable when downshifting.. just a thought, not too sure about the titan tranny...

nice theory, but i wasn't on dirt and my tires definetly wern't hopping.
