Arrow Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Just filed complaint with NHTSA. Driver's side rear seal leaking. 2005 K/C Big Tow 4X2 with 62,600 on the odo. Dealer says it is out of warranty so it is not covered, but I have extended warranty I purchased but Nissan dealership is giving me a hard time about accepting it. I had heard previously that Nissan was going to warrant the rear axles 36,000 miles above the 60,000 powertrain warranty, anyone else heard this?

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

OK, both rears are leaking. Drivers side for some time and looks like passenger side for short time. What exactly should I do (spare no expense, within some reason) to fix this as long term as possible? This will be a No Warranty fix that I'll pay for, should I have Nissan do this or someone else?
I've read all these posts but am still not sure what should be done to properly fix this long term. 04 KC LE 4x4 73K miles. And yes, I will get to reporting this.

Thanks

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Titan-ization I would suggest just trying a different dealer. I just picked mine up for the exact problem and the dealer did a goodwill fix, because I was at 63K. The first dealer I took it to told me tough luck you have to pay for it. That or call NissanUSA and explain the issue, because I would be surprised if they don’t goodwill it or at least agree to pay for some of the cost.

I kind of got the feeling that they know it’s an issue but are trying to handle it case by case in order to avoid to much of an uproar and have a TSB or full on recall.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Thanks KRC333, I contacted NissanUSA, I have a case number and should hear from a regional rep by the end of business tomorrow. We'll see what they say about it.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Reported a few days ago.
2005 CC 43000 miles Driverside

Took to dealer today and they of course had to order parts. I also had them look at the leaking power steering hose. For them to look at and tell me that it was out of warranty it cost me 53.13. That is rediclious.

Well, submitted complaint with Nissan USA and got a return call from a "regional manager", he "says" he submitted a "financial assistance" request to replace my driver side rear main seal, but it was rejected and that there is nothing more he can do. He says that NissanUSa said my case is closed and they will not acceptanymore requests from me for assistance...as if I have asked for it before (this is my first time ever). He says my truck is out of warranty at 62,700 miles on odo, which is true, but I told him this is an ongoing issue with the older model titans, and that there are others who have 63k and 65k on their odo and Nissan stepped up to the plate and did a good-will fix, why not on mine. he says it is a case by case basis and he does not know what the criteria is...anyway, long story short, I gave him a few choice words and an earfull of what I thought....basically stating that in this market, it is harder to sell these trucks, so why would you dump your loyal customers ina time of need? Anyone know if there is someone higher I can go to about this? thanks....

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

The women I talked to originally at NissanUSA said they take into consideration if you own any other Nissans (currently or past), did you buy this vehicle new from a dealer, and did you have all your service work done at the dealership. I have none of these, 1st Nissan I ever owned, bought it used two years ago, and zero service work (minus TSB’s) done at the dealer. I must have come on that rare day when the dealer was feeling good. You might just try taking it to another dealer as well, but that’s probably a long shot now that they have it in the system.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Well when I installed my lift it looked like mine might be leaking (05 4x4) I took it to the dealer last night for an inspection and oil change and told them to look. I now have 43K and they are gone... both sides. So now I gotta setup and appointment to bring it in. Luckily its still under 60K so they didnt give me a hard time about fixing it.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Passenger side is leaking pretty good. Time to go back to the dealer as I was just there getting the front rotors fixed for the second time.

I am really liking the Murano's & Altima's right about now!!!

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

On mine they just replaced the seal and the cage, whatever that means, plus a couple of other small parts.

Update: dealer fixed mine, no problem....guy at the local dealer even fudged the report and had Nissan replace my rear end, the WHOLE thing.
