Just found my 05 passenger side leaking last night... Can somebody do another summary of nhsta reports? I searched 04-05-06 model years and only came up with 36, not sure if I'm doing it right cause there site is a PIA! I'm sure I'll need the ammo with my dealership since I''ve got a lift. Guess it'll be dropped off tonight or tomorrow!
Keep us posted if they give you any problems because of your life. Mine broke before I had my lift, so it's not caused from your lift!
Yeah, looks like plenty of stock trucks have had failures. Called the stealership who can't get me in until next Tuesday, which is just great. Told the service guy on the phone I have a bad axle seal and if there are any metal shavings at all in the fluid will expect a new axle assembly. He seemed very surprised with how much I knew. He also said they have seen a couple of bad seals, but have never replaced an axle or rear differential! As soon as I get the "official" word from them I'll be logging my truck with the government.

They will not replace your diff fluid under warranty..They will simply replace the bearings and seals, and top off the fluid. They won't actually drain the fluid and give you new fluid.
Reported mine to the NHTSA. Dealer fixed leaky seal under warranty. I recently had them perform an overdue 30000 mile maintenance so I didn't need all new fluid, just topped off.
My driver side axle leak but my Diff seal, pinion gear seal, or Nissan calls them "Front Seal" leaks also.
Dose anybody have leak at the front like me?
I'm going to take it in to dealer next Wed. but they told me they are going to replace only the seal.
I'm little concerned here because pinion gear seal replace needs to remove the same nut that put preload to the bearings and they have collapsible coller.
Passenger side seal is leaking slightly. Just noticed it today. Called the dealership and they want me to wait a week to bring it in. I told them that was not acceptable and the guy said he could squeeze me in Friday, but said he didn't know if they had the parts so it would probably be gone all weekend. I kindly told him to order the damn parts as it is definitely the problem, to which he responded that they could not do verbal order requests. He also gave me a line of BS about it being the end of the day and him being busy so he couldn't look up the parts for availability today. If I don't hear from them by 10:00am tomorrow I am calling again and asking on the parts. If I get the run around I am going to another dealer.
My 04 truck is currently sitting on a rack without a rear end in it (for the last week now). Both wheel real seals were leaking but that is not why it ended up on the rack. The differential ate itself alive when one of the squirrel gears lost most of it's teeth and the rest of the gears ate up all the parts. Truck only has 54K miles on it and now looking at new rear end for just under $3000 out of pocket. Mechanics told me Nissan must know there is a problem with rear ends and seals since there are numerous changes to part numbers for gears and seals - says to them that Nissan is trying to find a fix without admitting a problem exists. My mechanics also said the rear end could have locked up rear wheels at highway speed if enough gear teeth had come off or gear had failed completely - luckily, that did not happen though.

Why would you pay for it when you have a 5yr or 60,000 mile power train warranty?

Nice work of fiction you wrote there. That or you are leaving a lot out. Your rear end should be covered by warranty. FWIW your leaky axle seals may very well have cause your diff to break. Low to no fluid is not good.
Filled out the form at nhtsa.com. Noticed both sides leaking during recent oil change at about 80k miles. I have also contacted NissanUSA, but they just give me the run-around. Maybe they'll get enough complaints from customers that they'll do something about it.

I just had a whole rearend replaced for two seal leak.
One dealer told me that they are just going to replace a seals.
I went to another dealer agreed with me that front seal just can not be replaced with out taking it apart to chang thecollapsable spacer, and Nissan don't let dealer take apart rearend for repair so they replaced whole axel for me.
Its unfortunate that I'm not the only one having axle seal (and now possibly gear) problems. Thanks for the update on where to send my two cents worth...I just spent $223 on the bearings, seals, and spacers to do the replacement work myself... Now I just need to hunt up a bearing puller!! My complaint number was ODI# 10191950. First brakes, then rearend, makes me wonder what is next. '04 Titan with 93,000 miles.....
I have gone round and round with NissanUSA customer service. My KC '05 has 80,000 when I noticed the axle end seals leaking. I had the extended service plan which ran out at 75,000 miles. I pointed out them that they more than likely knew they had a problem with the rear ends blowing out and causing the end seals to leak. They never would verbally admit to the problem; however they have agreed to pay 1/2 the cost to replace the end seals. I let them know how dissatisfied I am and let them know that they are only paying for an expensive band-aid. This will probably re-occur in short order.
Their agreement to pay half, is in my opinion, a confession of guilt. They say it is to satisfy the customer.

Dude, you put 80,000 miles on the truck before it occurred. What make you think you will still have the truck at 160,000. They weren't admitting a problem, they were doing god customer relations for someone who paid for an extended warranty and never needed it until his truck was 5k over. Relax and enjoy your truck.
I had an axle seal leak on my passenger side in July of 06 with 28k miles . Write up says they replaced rear axle shaft. I just crawled under my truck today and noticed that now my driver side seal is leaking! I have 42k miles now. I just loged the complaint from the 06 repair and will log the current one after its fixed. Im hoping i can convince them to give me a new rear end instead of just replacing the seal since its an Jan 04 rear end that is all rusty and seeps at the bottom.
