Hi all! I'm new here!
I just bought a used 05 titan with 23000 miles on her. I just found this thread tonight so I have not checked the rear end yet.
I was wondering if anyone has taken pics of their vent mod yet.
If not I think it would be a wonderful thing for someone that has done the mod to post the pics with ""how to" directions. I know I would appreciate it. It sounds like a great mod. But unsure how to go about it.
What filter are you using, and where are you running the hose??
I would do this in a heart beat

Toyota part #9040451026
3/16" fuel line
1/4" to 5/8" range hose clamps
FF2314 G6529 fuel filter
Everything from Autozone except the Toyota fitting (threads match perfectly).
Well I went through the SHAME of going to toyota to buy toyota parts to fix my titan.
Gotta do what ya gotta do!! They had to order it.
I did check the diff fluid and found it low.
I too took off the check cap and had a rush of vacuum when I removed the filler plug! I drove to work Let the truck sit about 3 hours before the check!
My other concern is- Ive read on this fourm people say the book says the rear end fluid is suppose to be 80-90 gl5. Lots of you are putting mobil 1 synthetic 75-90. Well when I climbed under my titan, the differential cover is stamped "USE 75-140 SYNTHETIC OIL ONLY!"
Is this a replacement axle???
Well let me know what ya think!
I think I should use whats stamped right on the axle!!!
Well Guys add me to the axle vent mod. I hope that keeps my axle from leaking.
Lovin this web site. Thanks bestatchess for the quick reply and posting those pics again for me. It was very easy. Also the original vent that was on the axle was rusted closed!!!! I could not even blow thru it.
I had the passenger side rear axle seal replaced yesterday under warranty. I noticed the leak on Sunday while doing other maintenance under the truck (good thing too!). Driver side is ok at the moment (knock wood). Anyway, reported with the NHTSA today:

My breaks started squeaking so I checked them out and found i had a rear axle seal failure. So when I got home Checked my dads and found that bout of his were leaking. We both have 05's I have 48k and he has 72k. I sumitted both of our trucks to the site.
My '06 had 3 rear axle seal failures before the differential failed and had the entire rear-end replaced. The other day, a Nissan shop foreman told me that the reason why the seals were failing was because the drive shafts within the rear axle was not thick enough and caused too much twisting motion, resulting in too much stress on the seals causing premature failures. According to him, the new rear-ends, including my replacemt has beefier shafts to prevent this from occuring. I have not seen this piece of info. on this forum before, and I have no clue as to the credibility of what he told me. However, he was speaking with confidence.

I believe my axle seal is bad at 47k miles. Changed the oil a month ago in the diff and the the backside of the rotor shield has more oil on it. It also thuds from D to R and back to D and there is some play in the driver shaft. Taking it to the dealer today. Should I have them rebuild the whole thing?
My '05 XE blew its first rear right axle seal at 47K miles and now at 66K (out of warranty at 60K) the seal is shot again and I have a bad seal on my tranny...this blows.
Alright, filed a complaint:
