Should be covered under the warranty. If they say it isnt just go to a different dealer.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

I just blew both axle seals at 25,000 miles. I know they just blew cause I towed about 10-11K lbs this weekend for about 30 miles. Then I noticed a oil spot on my garage floor. Easily noticable casue its a brand new house.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Took my 04 KC LE OR BT in for 30k service. I had noticed some oil drops from the engine area on my garage floor. Service manager called me back and said the fromt diff pinon seal and right rear axle seal were leaking. He stated the axle seal must have just started leaking. Both seals were replaced under warrenty and they also replaced the axle bearing. Had to leave the truck overnight for the work to be completed. Had a Sentra loaner for the night. No hassles from the dealer, just great service.

I think vent failure may indeed be the case. If the check valve gets plugged, I think the axle seals handle the venting. The people who replaced the diff vent check valve with a vent hose with a fuel filter on the end don't seem to be blowing axle seals.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

My passsenger side seal was leaking in June, they told me it was due to overfilling the diff. I told him I don't think that is right and I would keep an eye on it. Well, Friday at 59,952 miles, I noticed it was leaking quite a bit. Went straight to the dealer and had the receipt from June with their comments. He scheduled me for this Wednesday. The left one is wet, I'm going to take a photo of both sides and try to convince them the left one will leak soon and hopefully they will fix it also. Does the vent filter get clogged with oil and stick? Or does it get hot and stick? Should it be cleaned regularly to prevent build-up or just do the mod with vent hose to prevent further problems?

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Left was leaking on my 04 at 53k. Went to dealer and he just replaced rear end-didn't even ask.
Seems easy enough.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Has anyone had seals replaced with paperwork showing that new seals are now being used? There was a mention that an upgraded seal was in use, and I want to see if this is true and if anyone has part numbers so I can check when they replace mine tomorrow.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Mine is in the shop today for bad exhaust manifold on right side and leaking rear differential cover, and as I was looking underneath I see that both rear axles are leaking on to brake covers, bottom half completely saturated.

Dealer advised he will cover it, can't beleive they didn't see it when looking at rear end. Anyway, I reported to the Gov sight as sugested in this thread and we'll see how the repairs go.

It seems the Titans are plagued with problems, I've had the truck for three years and have had a dozen problems, from brakes to transfer case, to leaking AC, to odd ticking noices and now these issues.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

Just found this thread the other day, discovered that both rear axle seals were leaking at 37,000 miles or so. Right one was leaking onto the brake rotor; left one was just seeping. Neither were bad enough to leave oil on the driveway.

Called the dealer, dropped it off Sunday, both seals replaced Monday. I'm thinking of doing the axle vent mod and being done with it. I'm not sure I want to run as much hose into the body as was mentioned in the other thread though. I'm thinking just a good 2 feet or so should be fine with a filter on the end.

Re: Rear axle seals leaks. Please report.

When I first bought my 06 CC I registered with this forum. It was right away I read about the problems with the rear diff. To avoid any complications, I replaced the diff cover with a larger one that holds 4 quarts of gear oil and has a dip stick for easy fluid checks. Last week I found a driver side seal leak and was wondering if the new diff cover voided my warranty? I am afraid to go in and ask. Has anyone else had any problems with getting this fixed under warranty with a aftermarket diff cover?
