cam chain tensioner cold start noise
My 04 had 32K miles with no problems. I dropped the truck at the dealer for some minor work and they did the 30K "checkup". I told the service manager NOT to change oil or air filter having a drop-in K&N and AMSOIL 5W-30 & AMS filter in the motor. Get the truck back and after setting the weekend, start the motor, my first though was the cat picked a poor place to sleep, then more like nasty metal/mechanical. Well after checking under the hood and not finding anything unusal. Restart and it's gone. Same thing next weekend after again setting longer that normal. Having second thoughts about the AMS I check my oil milage odometer and it's been reset?? Also see not my filter and appears to be fresh Dino oil. Dealer changed it and didn't tell me even though it was on the work order not to. They used a Nissan filter and 5-30 Dino. Of coarse I got a bunch if dumb looks when questioned the dealer, but didn't expect anything more. Went and replaced the Dino with my AMSOIL and AMS filter, problem went away. It's only been two weeks, but I'm convinced my truck likes AMSOIL for cam chain lube/opening the valve deal. Typically run 7500 miles between changes, 0w-30 winter, 5w30 summer. Just my story.
