Noisy 4WD?

I finally got a chance to put my 08 CC into 4x4 mode for the first time this afternoon. Immediately, I noticed that it was quite noisy. A lot of mechanical whirring sounds (loud enough to hear over normal road noise) and vibrations (more of a high frequency buzzing) that you could feel through the floor and steering wheel. Is this normal? With all the other 4x4 trucks that I've had, they've been virtually silent when in 4WD.

Re: Noisy 4WD?

I thought the same about my pro4x. Then I thought if its going to break it going to break and then let the dealer sift through the parts.

Last week it was noisy in 5 inches of snow and today about 1/2 inch of ice.

Re: Noisy 4WD?

My 04 le has somewhat the same isssue with noise while in 4x4 only and under power. Dealer thought I was nutz and it was noise from my tires. Finaly forced the service writer to ride along. finaly he heard it and what not. He asked me to take the mechanic and show him.. Idiot couldn't hear a damn thing. He finaly heard it. They said the front diff is going south and they will be replacing the entire assembly.

Re: Noisy 4WD?

Drove my 08 LE in 4WD about 2 hours yesterday thru deep snow (what a blast). Anyway, very quiet. The only noticeable difference is perhaps a very slight additional vibration at my feet.
