I'd like to know why there are people who think a 3.36 gear in a Titan is equal to a 4.10 in other trucks.
Gears are gears. A 3.36 is NOT equal to a 4.10 ever.
In 4 wheel high (transfer ratio 1.000) we 4x4 guys have the same transmission as a 2WD with the 3.36 gears. The only way I can think for a 3.36 to be even NEAR equal to a 4.10 is for the 4.10 guy to be running 37 inch tires and the 3.36 guy to be running 31 inch tires. In that case, the engine RPM at 60 mph would be nearly equal.
But, hey, the Titan COMES with tires bigger than that.
So, if someone could explain how they think a 3.36 equals a 4.10, I'd appreciate it.
It has to do with the spread of ratios in the 5 speed, with 1st being lower in ours than it is in a typical 4 speed. So, our 1st gear with a 3.36 is about what an older GMC (?) with a 4.10 and a 4 speed transmission would be. It is a rough equivalant, but real. Nissan has published this, it is not just drivers hype.

Start with the 3.36 and it will calculate the optional gear ratios. As you can see a 4.10 at 5000rpm will be doing 29mph vs 35mph of 3.36.
However the real problem with gears greater than the size in your truck is the ECU will say Hmmm...that's not what I'm programed to see...I'm not gonna give you cruise control or allow you to downshift in rolling WOT.
I dropped in a 3.36 thinking it was in the family....I had issues and thanks to Uprev reflashing the ECU to 3.36 I was saved on my upgrade.
Someone needs to figure out the sensor on the axle or break the code on the ECU. To me the sensor would be a easier solution for those that know what to do and it's mechanical vs software.

Expand your mind and consider final drive ratios. That's where the similarities lie.

You get partial credit Grasshopper....
The engine doesn't know what gear the rear end or trans has, only what the combination of the 2 are.
The overall ratio (what the engine see's) is the trans ratio times the rear end ratio, so the Titans overall 1st gear ratio is about what most other trucks have with a 4:10 rear end, the Titan had to change the trans gear to come up with the
4:10 equivilent.
Now this works fine in 1st gear, but when you get to 4th the trans is 1:1, so while the "other" guys are towing in their 1:1 trans gear, they still have the 4:10 gears while we have the not-so-good for towing 3:337"s...

By extrapolation third sounds better, for pulling grade, (and I once heard one of those VK56 racer types refer to it as the "money gear", whatever that means) ...
But I do find when I'm having to pass, (before the big whoops), those people that don't like being passed, (but then brake at every whoop and curve), third is the best place to be.
