30k Mile Maintenance

I'm looking through my service manual at the 30k mile maintenance. There are two things I want to make sure I'm doing right.

First ~ Replace Transfer Case Oil (2 1/8 qts)
I peeked under the truck and I see two star shaped plugs. I'm guessing the lower is the drain and the upper (both on same side of transfer case) is the fill. Is this correct? It looks kind of tricky to fill the case. Are there any tricks or do I just use a pump or hook some tubing to the bottle and squeeze it in?

Second ~ Replace Auto. Trans. Fluid (?? qts)
I'm a little more confused with this. I've read a few threads and it looks like you can either drain it or have it flushed and at 30k miles you only need to have it drained. Is this correct? If so, where do I drain the fluid and how much is required? Anything else I need to know? Is this something other people are doing at 30k miles?

Thanks for the help!!

Re: 30k Mile Maintenance

I went with the royal purple for both the transfer case and the rear diff. I'll let you know how it goes and take some pics for everyone. Any last tips or advice?????

You should get your transmission flushed. If you just drain and fill you will only be replacing the fluid in the pan. If you do a complete flush then that will flush the complete trans and the trans cooler.

We use a pump for the diff. services.
