Is the Titan a Hemi ?

The Titan looks like the spark plugs are centered in the valve covers, is it a hemispherical combustion chamber?

Nope, several cars have had center sparkplugs for better combustion. Unlike "hemis" standard heads are easier to service, cheaper to make and can be modded in a much more efficient manner.

Re: Is the Titan a Hemi ?

Titan has a Pent-roof combustion chamber.
pent-roof:
A combustion chamber whose upper surface resembles a shallow peaked roof. Usually used with four valves per cylinder.

Re: Is the Titan a Hemi ?

Another thread a week ago listed "howthingswork.com" as having a short but clear explaination of hemi vs penta design. "how a hemi works" I think was the title. Good reading. Yes guys, not Master's Degree level, but good enough for us.

Checkit out.

You made me think a couple seconds Yellowmantis. I don't know.

FYI: Interference application means the valves will hit the piston if the timing chain breaks and you lose synchronization of the open/close action of the valves. JIC some of us forgot.

Re: Is the Titan a Hemi ?

The reason I ask is because I have had a few engine failures due to timing belts breaking and chains stretching to the point of valve vs piston collisions. Are we supposed to replace the timing chain at any time in the engine's life span?

Re: Is the Titan a Hemi ?

there is no need to replace the timing chain. It comes with 2 hydraulic tensioners, and if they can't keep it tight, then I don't know what will

Re: Is the Titan a Hemi ?

I have a friend that works at dodge and he told me that the newer hemi's aren't even a real hemi. Go figure.

Re: Is the Titan a Hemi ?

From Wikipedia:

The modern Hemi is not really a Hemi at all - it has a polyspherical combustion chamber similar to that in many other modern engines. A true Hemi head was considered in the design phase, but it was rejected and only the near-perpendicular valve arrangement remains. The Hemi replaced Chrysler's large LA family of engines, particularly the Magnum 5.9, in the early 2000s.
