Feel downshift when slowing down?

Ok, here is the deal. I have an '04 with 71,000 on the ticker. These are mostly highway miles at 2200 RPM. Very little towing, some heavy loads in the bed.

I have noticed lately that I can feel the trans shift down when I am coming to a stop. I don't remember being able to feel it before. Of course I new it was shifting but the Titan's drive train is soo sweet, I never felt it until lately.

Reason for concern?
Things that I should check?

Any help appreciated

Re: Feel downshift when slowing down?

Not an abnormal change, sometimes allieviated by normal trans service. I've had several in our work fleet like that. But they are working harder than you described.

I'd take it to a reputable trans shop, not Jiffy L, and tell them symptoms. They will give straight answer and good diagnostics and driving test of trans.

I didn't check Titan specs, but most vehicles require trans fluid change at 30K or 60K miles. Nothing to really worry about. Just take it in. Many trans fixed by fluids or modulator replacement.

Insist on only Nissan Type J Fluid from Nissan be used. Never a Type J compatible fluid. Trans and Nissan are picky for some reason. Let us know how it turns out.

Re: Feel downshift when slowing down?

It has an electronic brake, if for instance you are going down hill, if you tap the brakes it downshifts. Same affect when coming to a stop.

If you haven't had your tranny fluid changed, good time to do it.

Re: Feel downshift when slowing down?

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will take it to the "Stealer" for the Trans service. It's obvious to me that my truck is going to be a high mileage vehicle so I better maintain it on some kind of schedule.

I have heard horror stories of trans failing after flush and refill. I guess my drivetrain warranty is still in effect.
