Hey,
Has anyone ever noticed a ticking noise right after the motor turns over on their titan? I read some threads about the ac compressor and some driveline things but I'm not quite getting the answer I was looking for. Is it normal or should I take it down to the dealer? I've only got almost 600 miles... happens on cold starts and warm starts and I live in a mild area (northern cal) if it helps at all.
Its the little diesel in all our Titans wanting to come out. They have loud engins and it is normal. I have had someone ask if I had a hybrid diesel in it before. Hybrid diesel?? Uhhh yea.

Mine does it for a second or two and then goes away. I've been told its the lifters and as they get quieter as the oil gets pumped to them. I don't know if it's true. Just my $0.02.

That is one thing I'm very pleased with so far. On cold or warm startup, my Titan makes absolutely no clicking or clattering. My previous car, Monte Carlo V6, always clattered away for about 1 min after cold starting. Even though it was annoying, it never did any harm since I had that car for 9 years with no problems.

I posted asking this same question on the other site. Apparently, it seems most Titans do it. The only thing I'm curious about are the few that say they have no ticking at all.WTF?
I noticed the ticking noise got a little worse after changing to synthetic. Maybe Nissan had a piston ring to bore tolerance problem like Chevy had with the early LS1's. Since mine is a relatively early build date (10/04), I wonder if Nissan changed the tolerances on the later models making them quieter.
A slightly "loose" engine is probably better than a really "tight" one anyway. Afterall, that could explain why the '06 Titan's are slower than the '04/'05 models.J/K

Sorry I have to say it but Im glad Im not the only one hearing that ticking. My wife thinks Im nuts. I start it at Odark thirty every morning and hear the ticking, the next thing I expected to hear was a load clank and a dead engine. Makes sense it could be just until the oil get up and around the lifters but doesnt sound like it could be good on the engine. I have an 06, if anyone has had this on earlier models does it get worse, better or stay the same?
i have a weird tick (if that's how it's described) as well.....sounds more like a computer jitter/boot or something..not an engine noise pe...comes from the the dash driver's side...
i have an '04 with 32K on it and it sounds the same as the day i bought it. I have the slight ticking sound as well, i think its the fuel injectors more then the lifters myself.
