Transmission Clunk with a load

Sorry if this is a repeat, however doing a search I do not find the same problem that I am having. When I am towing my boat, and my Titan is either facing down hill or up hill with the boat/trailer connected to my truck, and I shift it into gear (either reverse or drive) it's very hard to do this. When I get it into gear it clunks real bad. I have had other trucks and have towed many boats and never had this problem with other truck models before. Has anyone else experience this?

Re: Transmission Clunk with a load

mine does it too. when shifting into gear from park on an incline or decline with that boat attached, i get a nice clunk. i sure all cars are like that, i know my dad's dodge ram does it. so does my pathfinder. heck, the titan does it with out the boat attached when i'm on and incline or decline and don't pull the e-brake.

Re: Transmission Clunk with a load

Use the e-brake, It works wonders. It is just the load being taken off the tranny, let the brake take the load.

Clank when Shifting from Park to Drive on boat launch

Re: Transmission Clunk with a load

I get the clunk and my truck always rolls backa bit after using the ebrake first. I have to park on a hill all the time, is this really bad?

Re: Transmission Clunk with a load

Loaded or unloaded i always set the e-brake while in gear and let off the brake to see that it is not gonna roll and then put it in park...When i do it like that i never get that clunk....If you are on a real steep grade with a lot of weight in or behind your truck the e-brake may not hold. That is when it is time to scotch the wheels to keep pressure off the tranny..Good Luck

Re: Transmission Clunk with a load

Problem is, this happens when I am in the driveway with trailer behind me, turning the wheels does not do anything because there is no curb...
