Thumbs up 07' Rear Diffs Have Changed!

Just in case you don't keep up with the rear diff failure thread, the new 07' rear diffs have had changes made to them. What exactly, I do not know, but a complete new set up part numbers, and Dana part numbers are on the new diff. The rear diff was also shipped out of New York which is different as well. According to the inventory person or whoever, mine was one of the first 07' rear diff's to be shipped out as a replacement. Just thought I would pass on this encouraging news. Nissan couldn't close their eye's to the problem forever. I have included a picture of my old rear diff sticker, built 3/3/05 and the new rear diff sticker built 9/8/06.

I'd measure the housing area near the rear wheel bearings to see if the diameter had been increased...and the seals enlarged. Other than that, I doubt any changes have been made.

This rear end dates back to the 1940's...and was used at one time by Ford and many other lesser known manufacturers. It was designed for HP/torque figures far less than the Titan has.

It's too bad Nissan couldn't have used a version of the Ford P/C 9 incher, the most bulletproof rear end ever installed in a car or light truck.

Nah nah nah, it's all about the Rockwells. Or on a budget, Dana 60's. Dana 44's are for Jeeps, not 300 hpfull size trucks!

The Dana 60's were a Ford F-250 mainstay for years...the Dana 70 was used in the F-350's. A fairly decent design with little in the way of problems.

Re: 07' Rear Diffs Have Changed!

I remember a post nearly a year ago, that a nissan insider remarked that they were aware of the problem and were going to make sure the rear ends were trouble free for 2007. That was one of the reasons I have waited to purchase my truck until 2007. Now if nissan would only start shipping their 2007's out here to California so that I could finally buy one - that would be sweet!

Re: 07' Rear Diffs Have Changed!

Burly--Thank you. You are a huge help to our cause. Unfortunately, the 2007's do not have new rear ends, at least not new part numbers. I just came from a dealer and they had several 2007's. The BT/NON-OR had part number 43001-ZH04D while the BT/OR had 43001-ZH06D, which are the same part numbers used on the 2006's. Please refute this if I am incorrect (2006 & 2007 owners).

thanks

The changes that I would assume would have been made is stronger spider gears. Dana just as Nissan is not going to continually ruin their reputatin on bad diff design. In the past powder metal was used, this could have been eliminated on the new ones. Obviously a change was made due to a complete new set of part numbers that have nothing in common with the old ones. Each rear diff assembly is around 1500 I was told. Nissan is not going to keep losing money on these forever. Changes were needed and somewhere changes were made. As far as the Ford 9", ours are very similar due to the slpine count. Our Dana 44 is a stout design, hoepfully now much much more stout.

Very possible these were early built 07's with the last of the 06' parts. Mine is clearly a different part# and Dana part # build on 9/8/06 very recent. I am fully confident that changes have been made

Re: 07' Rear Diffs Have Changed!

my intent was not to contradict Burly but to note there are 07's out there with the old part number (early 07's as Burly said). Burly's information will be handy going forward as we watch for the 07' part numbers to change.

thanks Burly

Re: 07' Rear Diffs Have Changed!

I keep hearing more upgrades on the 07s. I think I'm going to hold off on an 06 and get an 07.

Why not hold off till the '08's come out...all new front end, new dash/interior and some mechanical upgrades.

Re: 07' Rear Diffs Have Changed!

I just purchased an 07' a few weeks ago. And, I immediately swapped out my stock rear diff cover with a mag-hytec. During installation, I noticed that the "insides" of my 07' gears had a completely different look than a members 06'"insides". I cant exactly remember the thread, but I looked at a pic of a 06' rearend and my rearend looks completely different inside. And, my part# is completey different than the # listed on the 06'. So, it does look like Nissan finally made some improvements to our rearends. YEY!!!
