Something wrong with tranny i think

I recently bought a used 2004 Titan SE with 37,000 miles. I didn't pay attention to this problem at first but i now i notice it a lot more. When I come to a full stop in D i feel and hear a strange clunk or thud. I tried stopping in Neutral and there is no thud. Also when i change to Manual mode and downshift on my own while stopping there is no thud. And sometimes when I come to a complete stop for like a red light, as soon as I let go of the brake there is that thud again. I notice it more and more now and I can't figure out what it is. Also will the warranty cover this, or is it only till 36,000 miles? thanks for any adive.

Re: Something wrong with tranny i think

Sounds like normal axle wrap to me. When you come to a stop, let off the brakes a bit to release the built up tension in the drivetrain and then accelerate like normal to see if the thud goes way. If it does, then it's axle wrap.

When i come to a complete stop and let off the brakes very slowly there is one thud. But then i can press and depress the brakes all I want and the thud doesnt come back until i accelerate and stop again.

Re: Something wrong with tranny i think

Hey guys, so I took it to my local Nissan service and they told me that my brake rotors need to be resurfaced and all my brake pads need to be replaced. Estimate: $800 just for labor. I find this very hard to believe because when I brake in Neutral there is no thud. I told him that his can't be and he said well do what you want and just pay me the 100$ for looking at it and take it home. Any suggestions?

Re: Something wrong with tranny i think

I think I would look for a new dealer to do business with. It's not that hard to put pads on or even get the rotors resurfaced!

Re: Something wrong with tranny i think

Do the rotor and brake job yourself, its real easy. Its four bolts and a c clamp to compress the caliper.
