Electrical whine coming from engine.

Engine off / ignition on, electrical high pitched whine coming from engine, having trouble narrowing it down. Throttle body? Anyone else heard this when the engine is off and the ignition is in the on position?

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

Mine whines too with the ignition off.

Having a heavier duty electrical system with our Big Tow packages may have something to do with it aswell. Its normal

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

Took the top cover off this afternoon and it's not the throttle body. Any ideas. It does stop and start when I go from acc to on with the ignition. Still can't figure out where it's coming from?

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

Thought of that too, I hear it come up to pressure and stop. This is a high pitched electrical whine. I put a stethoscope on the fuel rails and nope. Also tried to listen in on the BCM and no there also. When I droped the scope near both right and left exhaust manifolds it got louder. This is odd. I never noticed this before only the past few weeks.

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

mine has had this for a long time, it's not very loud and jsut loud enough to notice if you have good ears. I know if I took it in for warranty issue they would not hear it and charge me $50 for wasting their time.

I'm almost starting to think it is the airbox.

A block of wood will work....just make sure the wood is long enough, so you won't catch your hair in the fan!

You can isolate the problem by pulling off one plug wire at a time. When you hit the cylinder that's tappin' the noise will go away.

Make sure you use a plug wire puller device....not your hand.

I'm not kidding about the wood...this trick has been around forever.

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

No tapping noises here. Just an electrical whine when the ignition is turned to the on position. Note, the engine is not running.

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

Yes, i have this too on my 06 titan SE with about 21k miles. It doesnt happen all the time, but i guess occasionally during mornings. I turn the key to "on" but the engine is not starting up or running. The electrical whine sound comes on. Seems to decrease in volume, happens to be loud and gets quieter. I guess im not the only one "whew".

I concur on the block of wood device, however I have always used a wood broom to do the trick. All in all, its the same principal.

W/ this method, I found out that my CPI fuel injection was blown on my S-10 SS a couple of years back, w/o taking the intake manifold off

Re: Electrical whine coming from engine.

Not sure how I'm going to use the broom handle trick when the truck is doing 55 or faster lol.

Don't pull the plug wires by hand?
