Angry rear diff

I HAVE AN 04 CREW CAB AND THE OTHER NIGHT AT FIRST IT SOUNDED LIKE I POPPED OUT OF GEAR, IT WAS TWO BANGS THEN IT WAS GONE. THEN IT HAPPENED DOWN ROAD AGAIN BUT I REALIZED IT WAS COMMING FROM THE REAR! THERE IS MINIMAL RESIDUE AT THE BOTTOM OF MY DIFF COVER, IS IT POSSIBLE I BLEW MY REAR WITH ONLY 38K ON MY TRUCK? DOES NISSAN HAVE ANY RECALLS ON THE DIFF THAT ANYONE KNOWS OF? CAUSE GOD KNOWS MY WARRANTY ENDED LAST MONTH AND NOW THIS IS ALL OUT OF POCKET!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!

Re: rear diff

Don't worry, it is covered by Drivetrain warranty, I think it's 5 year 60K miles.

Re: rear diff

Reviving this question. When I change my Titan from a drive gear to reverse, and back again, each time it makes a very loud clunk. It has driven fine, but the gear exchange is quite loud during the switch. Is this a pre-emptive failure, or typical? thanks,

I asked the same question long ago. Mine will not make any noise if I pause in neutral for one second when shifting between drive and reverse, but will clunk if I just fly through neutral. It's normal.

Re: rear diff

The diff will be covered under warranty. 5 yr 60,000 miles.

Also please file the claim at NHTSA. It will help out a lot and only takes a few short minutes.

Thanks,

Cheif
