I read in the manual that the diff lock is only good up to 4 mph. Huh? Wouldn't seem to be real useful if that is the case. When I try to engage the diff lock, the light indicator just blinks. Is this engaged?

Light will remain steady when properly engagged. Diff loc light will
blink on dashboard when pressed, but not work. Stop vehicle, place
in neutral, put in 4lo(green light will appear steady) then press your
loc switch(amber light appears) and dont drive over 4mph. I know,Iknow
owners manual says so.
I have, not like a race car but alittle faster just to get unstuck.
Only 1 time did I hear a slight popping noise , but what the heck
it goes with a the other noises my 06 makes. lol. Maybe , someone
else may differ but I dont think a few mph will hurt. Then again with
all the differential problems..................hmm?
I've tried the same procedure you mentioned for activating the diff lock and the light just continued to blink. Do you have to drive around a little to engage it?

Ok. I just went and tried it again. I had to wait 15-20 seconds for the light to stop blinking. And then after I turned the switch off it took about 8 seconds for it to disengage.

Mine does roughly the same thing. But, the delays are probably not quite as long.
The locker is not meant for extended use. It is meant for very slippery situations in sand or mud and for mainly straight runs out. Tight turns put a lot of pressure on the differential, especially when the traction is moderate to good. So, once you've gotten out of the bad stuff, you should dissengage the locker.
I'm interested in hearing about the detroit limited slip mod. I haven't seen a lot of comment about it since it was released a few months ago. True limited slip, which would require removing the locker, might be a geat alternative for overall road and off-road performance.

The rearend is a limitted slip all the time. The locker is a added bonus.

well, not really. all Titans come with an open diff. you only get an e-locker with Off-road package. there are no limited slips on Titans

no, he's right.. the differential goes from lsd to locker... its is actually a fairly decent lsd, too.. better than the one I had on my fronty... only non locker equipped Titans have the open diff
All Titans have an open differential. The LSD we have is ABLS and is controlled by the brakes and has nothing to do with the differential. ABLS is is disengaged when the locker is in use.
The ABLS is a gimmick and is one small step above useless. If you use the Titan like I do on a ranch, the ABLS is engaged at least 20 times a day. As a result of this I am on my third ABS unit and my rear brakes are on their third set of rotors and pads, and I only have 19k miles, with about 5k miles in 4WD.
Even when the ABLS works, it is nearly useless. The tires have to spin way to much before it engages. Even when it engages, the brakes are not strong enough to halt the spinning tire.
Nissan should have spent the money on a true limited slip.
