Front Diff Vent Line

Am I correct that the front Differential uses a vent hose line that comes up into the engine compartment behind the air filter housing and in front of the smog pump? This is the vent line unlike the rear which uses a one way valve?

I filled my front diff last weekend using a gear oil pump and amsoil synthetic 75-90 severe gear oil.

When I drove to wook it looks like the vent line is spilling some of the oil out. (noticed before leaving work) I believe I put in a little over 1.75 quarts and let the excess drain out before putting the fill plug back in. The front end of my truck was lifted higher than the rear (used some ramp/blocks).

Is this pretty normal or do I have a problem?

What will work well to get this gear oil out of my engine compartment that it spilled all over?

Thanks,
Justin.

Re: Front Diff Vent Line

You are correct about the front diff. vent hose location.
You then say that you filled your rear diff. with 75-90. You should have put in 75-140 in your rear diff.
Then I get confused, you filled your rear diff. and you have oil coming out of your front diff. vent hose?
Let's say you meant that you changed the front diff. oil and not the rear diff. as stated, and you have oil coming out of your front diff. vent hose. I have changed my front diff. 3 times and have never had oil come out of my front diff. vent hose.

Re: Front Diff Vent Line

Yea I ment my front diff. it was a late night lol.

I guess I overfilled it, should I drain some of it out?

What Can I use to clean up the mess it's all over my engine now.

Dealer said it only takes 1.5 quarts, I did put a little more in, he said next time I fill it check the inside with my finger, if I can touch the diff fluid it is full.

Now I'm thinking I probably over filled the transfer case as well. I just fill these thigns up untill oil comes out the fill hole. I could not find anything in the manual as to how much fluid teh transfer case takes...Should I drain a little oil out of there as well?

Re: Front Diff Vent Line

Wipe it up with paper towels, then maybe wash it off with simple green.

Can you Velcro or zip tie a small bottle or can and stick the end of the vent tube in to contain any excess that might still vent?
