Leak?

I was under my truck today and noticed some kind of oily stuff that looks like it has been spun off around the drive shaft, but I dont see anything leaking, and nothing looks like its leaking from where the drive shaft goes into the diff. The pictures are at the rear of the truck, where the drive shaft enters the diff. Any Ideas what it could be?

Re: Leak?

It's probably some excess lube leftover from when it was assembled, which would get slung off during the first few hundred miles.

That's my best educated guess.

Re: Leak?

My truck has 26k miles on it, and I added the Banks about 6 months after I bought it. Its probably nothing, but thought I would ask around. I will be taking it in soon for some other small issues before the warranty is gone. Ive had few problems so far, just the brake fix. Now, one of my windows rattles a little when rolled down, and I get some sticky stuff on the inside of one window when it is rolled up and down. I think Ill have them look at the radio also, Its hard to locate, but it sounds like it goes in and out of stereo, although the stereo light is always lit up, maybe a speaker going on and off? Oh yea, almost forgot, Im getting a little grinding sound up front when I brake, could be the pads wore out? Must be from all that hard breaking after going WOT

Re: Leak?

Yeah, it looks like the rear diff input seal is leaking a little.

Re: Leak?

I took my truck to the dealer yesterday. I had them check the brakes, they were grinding at about 29k miles, I had the brake fix done at about 3k. They called and told me it was just normal wear and tear and it would cost 320.00 to fix!!!!(I declined) I also had them check out the stuff on the undercarrage. I picked it up today, and they did the brakes free of charge, they said they replaced the pads and turned the rotors and used "squeeking brakes" to justify having it fixed under warranty, so I was happy about that. The tech said the rear pinion seal was leaking, so they replaced the pinion seal and fluids.(good call guys). Not sure if the leak is common? Im just glad it didn't cost me anything.
